Generally, when my foot is too close to the teeth, it is because my
foot is in my mouth.
I get in that position occasionally.

There was no beverage alert on this post. This kind of
inattention to details is going to ruin my keyboard.

Joanne, you're just going to have to adapt here. Do as I do, and stay
completely away from beverages whilst reading these posts! It's much safer that
way, I've found.

No beverages with the posts? How far do we have to take
this? There are some posters that I should know to
exercise more caution when opening their posts, but that's
not 100% effective, since so many others may or may not
post something dangerous. It may be contagious.

Perhaps I should look into getting a keyboard cover. A
raincoat as it were. For prophylactic purposes.

I wish NASA would hurry up and invent the Transporter, so
that we could get a bunch of us together in one place
without trying to use Kate's modem. I've had no luck with
modems, have tried sending chocolate with no success
whatsoever. We could have quite a laugh-fest and nobody's
keyboard would be injured in the event.

That is funny, because I seen her do a show on different zippers, and she
did them by machine.
I don't seem to have much problems when working with zippers, as long as I
take my time with them now, they come out as good as I can get them.

i've given up using the machine for all zippers!

especially after reading the article from Susan Khalje in Threads about
18 months ago about putting them in by hand.

now i do all zippers by hand.

Wouldn't that be so much fun!!! Joanne, you're a genius. We _will_
have to get together some day, you know. Shall we start planning now?

Patternreview.com were discussing having a get-together in Amsterdam
sometime soon. Did anything come of that? I saw the first part of the
discussion.

From what I saw, these are the things you have to consider:

It has to be a destination everyone can get to at reasonable cost and
convenience and with minimal jetlag.
It has to have fairly cheap accomodation.
It has to be at a time that's convenient to as many people as possible.
It has to have fabric shops and places of interest like museums, preferably
specialising in costume or textiles.
It has to have a fairly active group member nearby who can organise trips.
It has to have a destination close-by to spend time in, because if we're
going to travel a long way we'll want to stay for a while and besides,
non-sewing partners will have to be amused while we talk.

It seems to me that it would be good to centre it around a sewing expo of
some sort.

In the UK,
London has the Knitting and Stitching Show 7 - 10 October and it has plenty
of museums including the V&A (costume and textiles). It has lots of fabric
shops. It is _not_ cheap.
Birmingham has the Festival of Quilts 19 - 22 August. I don't know about its
musuems and shops. If that's too early the show will be on next year at
about the same time.
Dublin has the Knitting and Stitching Show 4 - 7 November. I've been there
twice and only found one fabric shop. It's a lovely city with friendly
people.

But the UK is a long flight and 8 hours time difference from the West coast
of the US.

The East coast of the US is better for journey and jetlag considerations. Is
anyone interested enough to do something about this?

Sally

Well, I need to start saving for the air fair! Even the V Posh Wedding
won't pay air fair after it's filled the hole in the bank balance!

I thought sure that Kate would say, "Come over anytime!"
But it is Sally that is scheming to get us across the
Pond.

It would be an experience of a lifetime. I once met with
someone from the Internet (are you here, Lynette?) and it
was a hoot! It was some years ago now, and we both were
extremely careful to set the meeting in a very public
place (you just never know who is on the other end of the
computer, now do you? Could be Jason or Freddie or some
other axe murderer.)

Sally is quite right in all the details, for a sizable
group, anyway. She's so good at it......she really should
organize it, shouldn't she? Let me see....get a
passport....get something that will knock me out for 13
hours of flying time....get lots of money so that I can
get the ticket and eat while I'm there......

Maybe we should just all meet on the new QEII. We could
cross the Atlantic either way.

Ha! Let me just add that the US dollar is VERY low against the Pound
Sterling at the moment (down over 40 cents last time I looked) so the UK
would be VERY expensive for our transatlantic members.
