Default Completely OT but Very Scary

So, while this has nothing to do with quilting I just have to vent (and calm
down). I was walking my puppy yesterday and, about a block from home, a
neighbor's dog charged us both. Now my pup is only about 20 pounds and I
walk with a cane so when this large bull dog grabbed my pup's leg and
wouldn't let go I was in a panic. I yelled "let go" several times and tried
to pull him off TeddyBear's leg but he wouldn't let go. So I pinched his
nose hard and he let go but only to clamp on my arm. Thankfully I had a
heavy coat on. I was balancing on my cane and half hanging my poor pup to
try and keep his throat and chest out of the area the dog could grab it. I
started to drag my puppy up to a house with the dog, who let go of my arm,
hanging on the poor pup's other leg now. I figured even if no one were home
I could use the house as a wall and get TeddyBear off the ground onto the
banister. This whole time I'm screaming "Help Me" at the top of my lungs
(to a neighborhood where everyone was either at work or school at 1:30 PM).
So I get on the neighbor's porch and haul my pup up with one arm against the
banister and this d**m dog is STILL hanging off his leg. I'm screaming, my
dog is yelping and this dog is snarling. I thought about pushing him off
with the cane but was afraid I'd be off balance and fall and the dog would
get us both. Finally a man driving by heard me and stopped. He used his
steering wheel "club" to pry the dog off my pup and back him down the stairs
away from us. Another neighbor came running up (having heard me from half a
block away and already called the police) and called animal control as well.
The dog was arrested and has since been returned to the owner (who showed
the appropriate documentation that all shots were up-to-date). I was
treated for an asthma attack that I had following the upset. My pup is now
resting fairly comfortably although he's being watched for possible
"soft-tissue" damage. I offered to replace the plants on the porch of the
house I ran up to (since the dog knocked them all over and he was hanging
off my pup) but the woman said not to worry about them. Oh....and the
person who's dog is was hasn't even called to find out if we're okay or what
the bills amount to or to say she's sorry. Go figure....

(((((((((hugs to you and teddy bear))))))) and lots of virtual chocolate for
you, and bones for your little fluffy one. It sounds terrifying. And shame
on the dog owner who hasn't called you.

This is horrible. Have you contacted the police? A dog like that cant be
allowed to run free and his owner is responsible for his dogs actions. Next
time it may be a child!
Hope you and you little pup are ok.

(((Nana))) I can't imagine the terror you experienced. I would be seeing
what can be done about that dog. It's dangerous. And I would also present
all medical and vet bills to the owner of the dog and demand payment.

Rude people don't care how their animals behave. Seriously. If
people are anti-social enough to really not give a fig about their
neighbors and cities, they're not going to take their dogs to "puppy
classes" (or care when their kids vandalize things, etc...)
I'm sorry to hear about your ordeal. I think a dog like that would
probably be put down in the UK - once a dog attacks someone in an
unprovoked manner, it doesn't manner if they have all their shots or
not, it's an unpredictable animal. Like someone else said, the next
time it could be a small child.
At least that woman, whose plants were all ruined, was nice to you.
I'm glad to here that you and Teddy Bear are safe and well for now.
Take care of yourselves.

Oh, Nana! How tremendously awful for both you and the puppy! I do hope
you're both alright now. I'm a dog lover, but I simply don't understand
people letting their dogs run free! That particular one sounds bad
enough that I can't see why he was released, even if his shots were up
to date. He's a danger and shouldn't be allowed out unsupervised and
unleashed.

Piggy-backing as I didn't get the original message...

This is horrible, and like Joanne, I think round here the dog would be
in danger of being put down.

What on earth was it doing loose in the first place?

How frightening for you and TeddyBear! I hope you both rest up and feel
better soon. Maybe you should carry some pepper spray or something like
that on your walks?

My husband carries an aluminum baseball bat when he walks our dogs. He's
known as the meanest man in the neighborhood, but after our cocker (leashed)
was attacked by a Doberman (loose), he really doesn't care.
