(((((((((((hugs)))))))))))) Shona - Jeepers why didn't you call or sumpin'?
You know we'd (geddit weed!) have been there to thwack him. Seriously though you know we are here for you - and you can always come help me spend the rest of my chrissy present in Spotlight! I promise I'll share! -- Sharon from Melbourne Australia Queen of Down Under http://www.geocities.com/shazrules/craft.html http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shazrules/my_photos ********************** "Shona in NZ" wrote in message ... Well.... I'm Shona in New Zealand. I live near Christchurch (South Island) on a farmlet with 2 cats, 3 chickens and 1 foster goldfinch (which will soon leave its foster nest for the wilds). No DH as he decided to up and leave 2 weeks before Christmas. I work as a scientist specialising in weeds (not the kind you smoke!) which fits quit nicely with my other hobby - edible wild plants; most of my friends call me a weedo. One of my life goals is to be able to go out and mow a salad instead of a lawn snorfle. I've been quilting for about 1.5 years and seem to have acquired a fair amount of stash during that time. I love bright colours, non-traditional and art quilts. Shona feeling rather tender and dazed in New Zealand "frood" wrote in message news As newbies come and introduce themselves, we all say "hi" back to them. But, while we learn a bit about them, they don't get to know us very easily. (ok, except for a few gabby folks.... ;-P ) So, as a start to a new year, I thought it would be fun to tell a bit about ourselves, and get to know each other. I'm sure the newbies aren't the only one trying to keep the players straight without a score card! Ok, here goes! I'm Wendy, posting as "frood". I live in Central NC, USA. I'm married to a fabulous man, and we have 5 kids, ranging from 13 to 4 yo twins, known online as Spike and Giles. I've been quilting for about 7 or 8 years, mostly machine piecing and machine quilting. I love bright colors, and I collect vintage textiles. -- Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm De-Fang email address to reply |

heck no Elda! The more we know the better the squishies! LOL Where abouts
do you volunteer? -- Sharon from Melbourne Australia Queen of Down Under http://www.geocities.com/shazrules/craft.html http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shazrules/my_photos ********************** wrote in message ... I'm Elda in Ks. Have been a widow for 11 years. Have 3 DS and 3DDIL, 2 DGS, 3 DGD, 5 DGGS and 3 DGGD. I made my 1st quilt, an embroidered crib quilt when I was pregnant with DS #1 and he is now 60 yrs.old. My quilting for the next 40 years was rather sporadic, mostly crib quilts tho I did make 2 bed quilts in that time. When we retired from farming and moved to town in '83 I really got into it. Have made 16 bed quilts, 10 or so crib quilts and a number of smaller items. I machine piece and hand quilt and hand applique. Do very little embroidery now. Have traveled extensively but have had to cut back on that. I belong to a quilt guild, a book club and Red Hat Society. Do some volunteer work, too. Try to stay out of trouble. :-) This is probably more than anyone wanted to know. Elda in Ks. where it is snowing. |

Hi! I love RCTQ, but don't get to read all of it, or post as often as
I'd like. I have some serious health problems and they seem to get worse the older I get. But, what can you do, except carry on? I'm 57 years old and am a retired RN. I had to retire early do to my disabilities. I worked in the same small town hospital for 30 years, first as a Nurse's Aid, then Nursing Student, then RN. I've worked in OB, Newborn Nursery, Intensive Care Nursery (where I was Head Nurse), Operating Department Recovery Room, and Same Day Surgery. I also worked on a second job occasionally in 2 nursing homes. My husband and I had our own business for a few years and I did all the bookwork, GoFer, etc. He and I worked very well together -- kinda surprisingly. My great gramma taught me to crochet. She was blind, though, so the way I learned is a bit different. I never need to look at my hands, as everything is done by "feel." My mother taught me to knit when I was 12 -- the European way, and I enjoy knitting, except I find that the arthritis in my hands get a little riled up when I get those needles going. I always wanted to quilt, and finally took a 12 week class at a local college. Quilting satisfies every creative bone in my body. I love designing, choosing colors and fabrics and making usable quilts. I like the pretty ones, but they have to be practical. The only quilts I "baby" are antique ones. My favorites are a 1930's star pattern quilt made by my step-father's mother. Then I have 3 pillow covers of Victorian style Crazy quilting that my GGM made of old men's silk ties. The quilting thread (embroidery floss) is always very colorful. She used up whatever bits and pieces she had. Her frugal style is distinctive enough that all the women in my family know immediately who the maker was whenever on of her handiworks appear. I have all my DMIL's linens, and am saving them for the time my kids want them. She did some beautiful embroidery, including a full size bed cover and matching pillow cases all of white muslin, covered with colorful embroidered flowers and butterflies. Much of the pattern is comprised of just French Knots and is fascinating to the eye and touch. I live in Des Moines, Iowa, Been here since 1998, and am now living in an apartment with my daughter. She's gone back to college, so we enjoy living together again. We've always had a lot of fun together. My DS and DDIL live next door -- just down our hallway and the first apartment you come to. This works out wonderfully for me because they have my first DGD, aged 3, and are going to have my second DGD any day now. Yay! for Grandchildren!! I wouldn't be able to see them every day if we weren't next-door neighbors because I don't drive anymore and seldom get out. My DIL works at Wells Fargo Financial and is very happy there. My DS is a professional artist. He works from home and is Mr. Mom. It's great -- he's 6 ft., 2 inches, weighs 200 muscular pounds, and is the most patient, loving father. I get a kick whenever I see him with my DGD out at the playground along with all the Mommies and other children. LOL My husband and I separated at my request nearly 3 years ago. We are still married -- 37 years -- just can't stand to live with each other. Our family went through a big crisis in 1998 and it was extremely stressful. I had a nervous breakdown because of it, and still haven't truly recovered. Before we moved to Iowa, we all lived in Montana, where all of us were born and raised. It will always be "Home" for us. If my health ever improves I'd like to go back, but there aren't that many doctors there, and you have to drive long distances to get to them. I need some specialists now, and being able to just go across town is invaluable. I have a Bernina 1630 Sewing Machine, and a Bernina Deco 650 Embroidery Machine. These two machines should last me the rest of my life and my daughter has already laid claim to them! I love appliqué and piecing, traditional and children's. I'm not too sure about art quilts. I always think, "They're beautiful, but what Do They Do?" My hand quilting is OK, and when I found Tiger Tape, I thought the manufacturers must have seen me squinting and frowning some time when I was trying to do some hand quilting outdoors. My favorite fabrics are Batiks and vintage 30's era. For such a dark time, those ladies sure knew how to brighten up their lives with those great flour sacks. I truly admire them. I also collect other vintage linens -- doilies, pillowcases, with a special nostalgic fondness for old tablecloths. I love color -- the more the better. Orange is the only color I use under duress. Not my favorite, but if used in small amounts and as a tiny bright highlight, it's OK. I *love* the jewel tones -- magenta, purple, royal blue, violet, ruby red, peridot green, etc. I favor scrap quilts because I get to play with all the different colors. I've been collecting fabric and sewing nearly my entire life. I made doll blankets and clothes, many of my own clothes in high school and also my dress to wear on our honeymoon trip. About that time I learned to self-line my dresses so I wouldn't have to bother about slips and droopy straps. I'd make my own purses to coordinate with my outfits. I made most of my DD's school clothes and good clothes for church. Other things I love to do are oil-painting and water color painting. I did some tole painting in a class a few years ago and that was fun, too. I'm the family historian and have been putting together our genealogy since I was 15. I'm half French-Canadian-Indian (Chippewa), on my father's side. My mother was of Danish-Swedish-Norwegian descent. I got her very fair skin, but I got everything else from my father. I have dark brown eyes, dark brown hair (very little gray yet) and though I wear Ivory tone foundations, I tan in minutes in the summer. That's when I look like my Native American grandmother. So -- you probably know more about me than you wanted to know. But I am interested in other people and want to get to know you all more. Happy Stitchin' and Take Care! René |

no, it wasn't me. And although I have been 29 for quite a while, I'll only
admit to being born in 1970. Some of the kids I used to baby-sit are off into the world now, though, and doing well. Breaks my heart some. "ALZ" wrote in message ... There seem to be a lot of Lindas in this group. Were any of you part of the "Linda Block Exchange" that we did many years ago - from a quilt mailing list ? I lost my list of addresses during my first major computer crash and changed my service provider since so I lost touch.
