I had a bunch of these as well. My solution was to trim the seams, front
pockets, waist bands and zippers off. DH calls them jean "filets" - just the
flat denim is left with the back pockets intact. If there are any terribly
worn spots, those are trimmed off also. It does save some space, but
probably not as much as the finish trimmed squares.

I make jean quilts for the dogs in rescues all the time. They love them
and they wash and wear well. I do use a thin batting and also off set
the rows.
You guys have given me an idea though, maybe I should make them for my
nieces and nephews for Christmas this year. What size should I do???

The ones I made for the grandchildren are about the size of a generous beach
towel. I know, I know. That measurement is vague. Try to imagine the
recipient tucked under it on the sofa on a chilly night. That project cost
me one hand and one shoulder for a few weeks, and quite a few rotary
blades. If you can - do the cutting in little doses so you won't
temporarily disable your body. End of the story - the quilts are very loved
and should last forever, more or less. Polly

Yep, Taria, I know about those increasing stacks of jeans ...
that is why I am cutting now! Stagger the seams? Hmmm....
good idea, note to self!
BTW: The carpet installation is finished! Yippee ... now we have
to replace all the pamos, fabric, books, fabric, shoes, fabric, etc.

Funny you should ask about denim quilts Pat. ...cut...I have found that when I
do squares if you off set or stagger the seams it goes a lot easier. The
less seams crossing the easier and less bulky the whole thing is to work
with. One warning. When you make a denim quilt don't tell anyone.
They start giving you their old jeans and you finish with more than
you started with. I have boxes and boxes of jeans!
Have fun, Taria

I used the leg of an old pair of jeans to make a cover for my DH's
camera tripod. I just had to sew one end and make a carrying strap.
He's had it for years and it works great.

Taria,
That is so true...my son's freinds gave me all their jeans and as I get
jeans...I just cut them into 6 1/2" squares and store them until I need a
gift for somebody. It gets worse when the friends tell their friends...it
is a very dusty quilt to work on.

Tina,
I used to make purses out of the top...the waist and line them with Banadana
material.
