Bottom posting is not a problem if you snip everything but the relevant
bits to which you are replying. Top posting drives me bonkers, and I'm
too acustomed to nettiquette that states it is rude to top post. It's
also rude not to snip out what doesn't matter. Having to scroll through
a huge post for a "me too!" is just as bad as missing the very short "me
too!' at the top before the quoted huge long post.

Frankly, if everyone snipped appropriately, it would not matter quite as
much- there still would be all of the important info right near the top
of the screen. And, for the few poor folks who pay for downloads, it
saves them pennies too.

I think a BOTTOM poster created the Usenet etiquette. LOL

I don't know why it is not done that way other than it is not 'proper'
usenet etiquette. Even though it's not 'proper' I do it myself and really
appreciate those that to do so. I find it easier to read, but I'm sure
though that there are many that really like it the 'proper' way. It would
be really nice if we all like doing it the same way, but that will never
happen, so we are all just going to have to put up with each other each
doing it our own way.

I don't think 'below' is standard here, Kate. There are far more top
posters than 'bottom posters'.
I can manage fine with either; but the difficult ones are those with no
quote, so that it isn't clear which message is being replied to; and
those who leave all previous posts - sometimes up to five arrowheads?

with a long or complex answer in parts, we intersperse the answers with
the relevant bits of the original post.
Some groups prefer top posting, but all those I subscribe to either
don't mind either way or prefer bottom posting.

I think those "rules" were made by men who weren't sure they read right
the first time. Top posting makes more sense because one has already
read the first post and knows what it says and most folks leave at least
a smidgen under the reply to refresh someone's memory, if need be.
Moving the cursor back and forth is a waste of time and effort, and I,
too, prefer top posting.

My newsreader (outlook express) puts the original post, then each reply in

had to scroll to the bottom of each of those to read a response, rereading
each post as I went, not only would the time factor spent reading blow out a
gazillion times, I'd know each post by heart by the time I reached the last
one. I'm sorry but I'm a serial top-poster.

To each their own, we have no moderator, I was not aware there were any
rules and if I've broken some I'm sorry but life's too short....

That is great if you get the original post. That doesn't always happen.

Of course we know that this thread is NOT going to change the way people

I am a die hard TOP poster. I don't like to have to scroll down miles and
miles to see a "me too" or a "wtg" or some such reply. I know what the
header is, I know what the topic of the post was. I do like the occasional
quoted bit and then a reply, then you can see exactly what the response is
to. As far as bottom posting, I probably wont be doing that either.

I use Outlook Express and it threads the replies and it also puts my cursor
on the top of the message when I hit reply. I figured that was the way they
all did it and just went with what my computer told me to do at that time.

~KK in BC~ putting in her 2c worth too (although Canadian 2c isn't prolly
right, more like 3.278384 cents worth?)

I know that some people always include the original post with their
response... and some never do. And either is okay by me (but then again --
I don't pay by the kb)

However....

If you include the original message -- could you please see that your
response is at the TOP of your reply ... and not way down after all the
repeated text.... This really makes reading messages cumbersome...
bouncing back and forth to scroll down to read what YOU have to say -- and
almost always we have already read the post your are replying to. If we
forgot or need to clarify -- we can always scroll down...

But please .... put your reply first!

I'm probably not alone in this request -- but this is just my 2 cents...
and my request. (or is there some reason why you do this? if so I'd
welcome an explanation so I could better understand. )

Thanks...

Howdy!
Hmm...thinking of how often I've moved the mouse
while reading posts here for almost 10 yrs.,
I'd agree with you, Pat:
most of us are Top Posters,
altho' the older netiquette rules called for Bottom Posting.
Either way is easy to read... or skip. VBG

Leaving the original post just 'cuz.

Oh, sure, Tina, blame it on the re-read thing.

It drives me batty to have to re-read through all of the previous post
to get to the new posters response/reply. I have often wished that
people who repost the original post - would add their response/reply at
the Beginning as opposed to at the end.

Anyway, personally, we all have our own style of posting -- as we do in
how we sign our posts -- and we all have different reading preferences
as well --- I think this topic is one likely to stir up trouble
(although unintended by your part, I realize) simply because there is
no one way to please everyone so I say Do what works for you!

Kate,
I have no idea if my stuff comes up first or last --- I am forced to
use Google now and it chooses where to put my stuff and what I see (it
automatically condenses quoted items down to a link that I have to
click if I want to read it so I usually ignore if the link is there or
not unless I *really* want to reference something back). However it
comes out is how I plan on leaving it vbeg Along the same lines, I
don't know how much my newsposter quotes (ie. just the immediate
message, none of it, or everything in the "tree" back to the original)
Again, no control on my part so I'm not worrying about it.

When I had control, I tried to be a top poster for the simple fact that
I had already read the other message (the ones being replied to) and
didn't want to wade through them again (myself as a reader) to get to
the new material. I also prefered to know that if I had a question
about what was being referenced, I could scroll down and find it (if
the person did quote it -- and quoting isn't *always* a good thing
IMNSHO).

Anyway, personally, we all have our own style of posting -- as we do in
how we sign our posts -- and we all have different reading preferences
as well --- I think this topic is one likely to stir up trouble
(although unintended by your part, I realize) simply because there is
