If you do choose to make a wallhanging (a perfectly delightful size of quilt,
BTW), look for a pre-printed panel in her colors. Add a few borders, machine
quilt, bind, presto! almost instant quilt!

Wendy, that is a wonderful idea! I made two Christmas wall hangings as gifts
using pre-printed panels, and they were easy to do....even for me!

I'm tellin' ya...I just love this group!

kaila, who's finally getting excited about making this quilt!

Why on earth would she think you should make her a quilt? I would call her rude
more than assertive.

Before reading all the comments here, I would have never thought of my
co-worker as rude or pushy. I guess working with her so long has skewered my
perception of this young girl. Sometimes we're just too close to the situation
to see things clearly.

I wouldn't mind making her something that is quick and easy, and I like Wendy's
suggestion of using a panel for a wall hanging. I'll just have to find
something appropriate.

You ladies are great!

How about a pillowtop.

Wow...another great suggestion. Is Pati Cook here? When she and I went to
the Quilted Apple late last year, I told her I would love to learn to make a
pillow, and she gave me some tips. What were those tips again, Pati????

you know the old expression something like "give a man a fish and he'll eat
tonight, but teach him to fish and....." Oh, I can just see me buying her
a wonderful quilt magazine with lots of pretty pictures and giving it to her
and saying, "since your interested in quilting, I thought I'd help you get
started so you can start making your own quilts! Here's a magazine with
great pictures to give you some inspiration".

Perhaps a star block, and using southwest type fabric to remind her of her
time in Arizona. Something with saguaros
and other cactus or something

Oh Pati...you ARE here! I thought something Southwest would be nice, too, but
the assertive one (ok...pushy) said she'd like something with an African
American motiff. I'm not sure I'll be able to find something like that,
especially in panels, so she may just have to live with what I can find.

OK...so we're down to a wall hanging or pillow. I think I need to clarify that
I really don't mind making something for my co-worker. My hesitancy is due
more to lack of confidence in making a nice quilt than anything else.

But do yourself AND her a favor -- don't make her a quilt just because she's
pushy. She won't really appreciate it, you'll resent it, and you'll only be
rewarding bad behavior.

Thank you, Kathy. If I find myself resenting having to make the quilt, I'll
know to stop right there and then. And then I'll go get myself a big bowl of
ice cream!

Yep! That's the answer to her problem right here. Exactly what she said!

What on earth is going to happen to you if she doesn't like your
contribution to her going away present?

As my friend Janis would say in a situation like this "It's not like she could
kill my kid".
