Im glad youre setting goals like this. Challenging yourself will feel fun!
Id love to see what you come up with for the blooming nine patch. Im not
familiar with it. Can you tell what it is you dont like about the ones that
do nothing for you vs what the wow! ones look like?

There are two scary ones for me. I'd love to make a blooming 9-patch.
The fabric selection is what scares me. I've seen some that are
gorgeous and others that, well... don't do much for me. It's all in the
fabric selection, and I feel I'm not experienced enough to pick the
right fabrics yet. I'd also love to make a mariner's compass. I'm
worried about matching the points on this one. I've got a long way to
go before I could make one I was happy with. But I'm confident when I
have a couple of years experience or so, that I will make both of them.

Thats a totally legitimate reason to not make a particular quilt!
300 dollar a yard????? Wow! I have a lot of respect for your confidence!

LOL
I wish I had figured that out a couple of quilts earlier!
The husband part.. the fabric part was fairly easy to figure out.

I agree.. up to a point. Last marriage the ex held the purse strings so
tight I couldnt get a pinky in. The price of a quilt top back then (even

if
it was wally world dollar table stuff) would have held me back, and even

as
it was it was scrape the fabric up here and there where I could. Making

a
quilt that failed to the point of not being usable would have been
heartbreaking.
But, now I am older, wiser, and think its worth the risk of making

mistakes.
So..
The lesson is, it IS just fabric and if you dont take the chance of

failing
you will never succeed.. does that sum it up pretty well?

Patchwork, quilting and the related activities are my delight and
recreation. I would not want a past time/hobby (okay, obsession)
that would make me tense and knotty. Quilting is an adventure,
not an adversary.

I just jump in and do what I want. If I don't know how to do a
technique, I read, ask questions and sometimes take a class. I
might postpone a certain technique while I master a lesser skill,
but I am not intimidated.

To put it another way ... I am the MOM and the quilt is the KID
.... what I say goes!

I can answer this for everyone on here. The one that scares them is the

they have to make for me. That's why I don't have many. I'll soon need

a
housewarming quilt (or two.... or three... or....)

And interestingly, you've gotten quilts from at least two of the people who
said quilts don't scare them. You may be on to something here...

Everyone, here is the chance to rise above your fears! Make a quilt for LN,
and it will set you free. (I'll expect my usual commission, LN)

don't wanna!!!!" ;-)

Yep. Every quilt I ever made, just before I begin quilting it. Usually,
I am really happy with how the piecing turned out, and I am terrified of
ruining it with bad quilting. Some of my oldest UFOs are finished
piecing, waiting for the quilting.

Mine is the Dahlia. Its the picking of the fabrics that has me worried.

Oh, I see. Quilt patterns, not particular quilts. In that case let's see
- New York Beauty. Dear Jane. Mariners' Compass. Anything with curves or
lots of points. Anything that requires super-precise piecing (not my
long suit).

OTOH, appliqué (which many people find intimidating) holds no fear for
me. Why is it that people are terrified of appliqué?
