Who has been a member of this group the longest?
Interesting. I thought I started participating around '96 - '97 but I
know when I joined the .rec group was new and so posts were sent to both the new group and the .alt group still as they transitioned. Perhaps I was around earlier than I thought, or maybe the transition was just really slow. :-) marcella In article , Hanne in DK wrote: Den 24-01-2013 06:11, She in PA skrev: We got into a discussion on Fb of who has been a member the longest. Does anyone know who actually started this group? I have no idea - I got in winter 2001/02 when I first moved to the US. I did find however the original vote for the newsgroup rec.crafts.quilting (see below about name change in 1994). That newsgroup was started Aug 1993. This is the transcript of the messages about the voting for creating the quilting newsgroup: ftp://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/news.an...rafts.quilting At the bottom are the voting results, including names. Maybe some of those who have been here long can recognise names? Presumably those who voted for, if they ever joined in, would have done so early on. The name-change (r.c.t reorganisation!) was voted on in Aug 1994, and since it passed, I'm assuming it took place something like Sep 1994. Again, lots of names at the bottom of the page (at least some of whom would have been active): ftp://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/news.an...fts.textiles-r eorg So, at least we know that start dates were either 1993 or 1994 depending on how you want to count. Maybe we should start celebrating our birthday on Sep 1? :-) Hanne in DK |

I think I found you all in 1996 or 1997 when I bought my 2nd computer. I then dropped off for a while (as is known to happen at my age...) and rejoined in 1998 or 1999. Most of the names on that list are people I don't remember, a few sound familiar. Does this make me a 'newbie' still?? LOL I started lurking in 1997 Then Connie David brought me out in the open as Madame Fabergé. I did the beaded centre panel of the Enschede Quilt in 2001 and went to Holland to the handing over ceremony Of the Big quilt to the town and the four quilts to the wives of the fireman who died. I made one quilt for myself but since ill health prevented me from making more I have given away most of my stash to friends who quilt. I have kept all of the squishes that I received, (just in case). I still occasionally do bead work. I still lurk and read the messages everyday Hugs to all Shirley -- Shirley www.allcrafts.org.uk |

I do remember originally accessing the group via Prodigy as well, however, among others. It was great fun searching through all the available usenet groups at the time. Who has been a member of this group the longest?
Huh - didn't know there was a .alt group before. The .rec group was
definitely created in 1993 though. Maybe I can find the .alt group too. Did it have quilting in the name? Hanne in DK Den 24-01-2013 17:05, Marcella Peek skrev: Interesting. Who has been a member of this group the longest?
I believe I have been here since 1998 or 1999.
I was on usenet for a while before that, then it occurred to me to look at the sewing groups. I landed here because at the time the fashion groups were in an endless round of flame wars, and the "home sewing" groups were accusing anybody who knew anything about design and tailoring of being agitators from the fashion groups. Yeah the usenet tended to get a bit het up back then. (G) Besides, quilting is what I do just for fun and it was nice to talk about something fun that I could do without considering any outside demands. Who has been a member of this group the longest?
Teresa Creech is on one of those lists. She was here for many years.
I wonder and miss many. Ruth in happy camp, wendy frood, and of course those that are passed. I was just thinking of Pami the other day. Taria "Hanne in DK" wrote in message ... Who has been a member of this group the longest?
In 1995 , DS and DD were heading off to college and they showed me how to do
email. DS found the Newsgroups and signed me onto RCTQ. Almost left when Miz Sairey said they had 'ways to find where I lived' and now you can even 'see' the house I call 'home'. We've come a long way since to where every one of our posts appears on MANY other groups without our permission or without asking if we want to be there. Butterfly |

I posted pretty early--mid 90's I think, but I've not been able to access the archives from 'way back then. (If things never really disappear from the internet, why can't we find the old archives some way?) The person I most remember from those early days was someone named 'Verdi'. Ruth Evans left an impact too; she was the recipient of the first hug quilt, and was gone so suddenly.. |

Who has been a member of this group the longest?
I started sometime in the late 1990s. The very first HUG quilt had
just been created for a guy who had access to free fabric and shared liberally. I think his name was Mike but am not quite sure as that was just prior to my time.
