I need 220 pcs. that measure 4 1/2" x 1 3/4".
The color I have picked out for this is 36" x 44", plus another pc. that measures 11 1/2" x 31". Do I have enough???? Karen, Queen of Squishies -- ************************** All of us are in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. |

If my math is correct, and those measurements are with seam allowances, then
yes. Between the 2 pieces you have enough. All I did was take 36 and divided it by 4.5. That gave me 8. Then I took 44 and divided it by 1.75. That gave me 25.14285....Took 25 and multiplied it by 8, gave me 200. Doing the same for the little piece, you can get 34 pieces from it. Hope I didn't confuse you!! HTH Toni |

1) take the 44*36 piece, cut the 44" side every 4.5" to get 9, 4.5*36
strips plus 1, 3.5*44 strip 2) cut each 4.5*36 strip into 20, 1.75*4.5 pieces - total so far 180 pieces 3) cut the 3.5*44 strip into 9 , 3.5*4.5 pieces, trim to 1.75*4.5 - if you're lucky you may get 18 of these, but only count on 9 total so far 189 4) cut the 11.5*31 piece along the 31" side every 4.5" to get 6, 4.5*11.5 pieces and 1, 4*11.5 piece 5) cut each 4.5*11.5 piece into to get 6, 4.5*1.75 pieces total so far 225 6) you still have a strip that is 4*11.5 which can be cut into 4 more pieces total possible 229 HTH Cathy in BC Karen, Queen of Squishies wrote: I need 220 pcs. that measure 4 1/2" x 1 3/4". I hope the measurements are after you have cut the selvedges. As you are
very tight with fabric. I am not sure what type of pattern they are, and if you are particular the direction of the cut . I have worked out two methods hope I am correct and this helps. The large piece 36" by 44" 8 columns of 4 1/2" (36" see how tight this will be) 25 rows of 1 3/4" (43 3/4") gives you 200 pieecs From the smaller piece 11 1/2" by 31" 2 columns of 4 1/2" (9") 17 rows of 1 3/4" (29 3/4") you get 34 pieces Total 234pieces If you cut the other way From 36" by 41" 20 columns of 1 3/4" (35") 9 rows of 4 1/2" (40 1/2") you get 180 pieces From the smaller piece 6 columns of 1 3/4"(10 1/2") 6 rows of 4 1/2"(27") you get 36 pieces Total 216 pieces I hope this helps "Karen, Queen of Squishies" RisingStars @ KarenTucker.com wrote in message news:88v1g.691378$084.75563@attbi_s22... Yes. Easiest way, cut across the fabric to get 8 strips 4 1/2" by 44".
Cut each of these into 1 3/4" pieces, 25 for each strip, with extra to allow for cutting off selvedges or evening up or ???? . From the second part cut strips 4 1/2" by 31", then cut into 1 3/4" segments, 6 per strip (should have 6 strips) total pieces 236. Plenty to spare. Wow, that's a great thing, that calculator. If I used it, I could be sure
to have enough, but not "too much". LOL Thanks for sharing the site, it's bookmarked now. -- TerriLee in WA (state) "Sharon" wrote in message oups.com... I've used the fabric calculator at http://search.quiltshops.com/calculator/calculator.htm alot - maybe it will help. Sharon (N.B.) |

Toni.
Got the same results. Karen, there is not much room for error he Piece that is 36" by 44": Along the long length (44") you will cut 25 1.75" strips. You will then cut those strips (all 36" long) into 8 4.5" x 1.75" pieces. 8 times 25 = 200. Piece that is 11.5" by 31": Along the long length (31") you will cut 17 1.75" strips. You will then cut those strips (all 11.5" long) into 2 4.5 x 1.75" pieces. 17 times 2 = 34 That leaves you 14 pieces left over. Jenn in CA |
