Now you know why I've never made a quilt for SIL's husband! ROFLOL
Have you named your new friend? -- Kathy A. (Woodland, CA) Queen of Fabric Tramps http://www.kayneyquilting.com , remove the obvious to reply "Polly Esther" wrote in message nk.net... Today I received the ultimate thank you note. I made a quilt for my new neighbor here in The Swamp. He truly, dearly loves it. Will not sleep or nap without it. I was sure he appreciated it. Not enough. He brought me an eight-point buck by way of a thank-you note. Well, fortunately, not the whole buck. It is such a beautiful lovely mounted deer. I guess you call it a deer. He is mounted here in the sewing room and makes quite a statement. My idea of hunting would be to go out in the woods and get a deer to roll over and let me rub his belly. Quite a challenge to have the "thank you" here with me. I am trying to get comfortable with this expression of appreciation. My mother would say, "Now, don't that beat all?". Yes, I think it does. Hmmmmm
I guess one would have to like that sort of thing. As a vegetarian, it would freak me out. I could not have a dead animal carcass on my wall, but the sentiment he was displaying was so sweet. Well, Miss Buckeye, don't you go cutting those strips until
you know how big the logs need to be... g Mickie ( just back from the postoffice - they are IN the mail ) Gee - only eight points? Well, sigh and make do. Just think of all the log cabin strips you can hang from those eight points. :-) How lucky you are - I've been brainstorming, trying to think of how to separate all *my* fabric strips..... with tounge place firmly in cheek, I am Buckeye Bev |

Take it in the spirit it was meant. Hunters rarely give up prizes like that.
Sort of like when your kitty brings in a dead vole and preens and looks so proud of himself. 8-points -- thread holder? -- Anne in CA "It's not having what you want; it's wanting what you've got." -- Sheryl Crow http://home.covad.net/~arudolph/annes.htm Polly Esther wrote: Today I received the ultimate thank you note. You can do what I used to do with DH's deer heads that were stuck on the wall in my living room: Hang Christmas bulbs on them at the appropriate season and felt hats on them the rest of the time. Those white elephants can be worth big bucks (pardon my pun). I saw one
head sell for $10,000. It was huge, but still. Cindy "nbhilyard" wrote in message ... Is he likely to come to your house to visit his former possession? That is, will he be offended if you do not put it in a place of honor? "White elephant" comes to mind. The origin of the phrase is that the King of Thailand would give (=lifelong lease) white elephants to courtiers. White elephants couldn't be worked the way regular ones could (whether a physical problem with the albinism or a legend), so the courtier who got one had a nonworking critter who consumed a lot of food, and the courtier could not turn the elephant loose or let it die of neglect. Thus, the king used the "gift" to ruin those courtiers who could be plotting against him. Nann "Polly Esther" wrote in message nk.net... Today I received the ultimate thank you note.
