Bought Singer 603- How to wind bobbin?
My SO is having a mini conniption, cause I just brought home *another*
sewing machine. But that's ok, since this one has zig-zag (woo!) and it was only $25. I googled, and I also joined the "vintage singers" group on yahoo, but can't find info on how to wind the bobbin. Looks like it's got a wind-in-place bobbin, but I haven't figured out how to get it to wind properly. Do I thread the machine normally? Do I push that weird button on the base? Help! Also, it appears to be able to do double-needle stitching... how do I do that? Does it take a special attachment where the needles go? Do I thread two spools through the machine... one for each needle? I'm so excited.... finally, I can do satin stitch! Well, after I figure out how to wind the bobbin. Cina |

I don't have one of these machines, but I think the "weird button" probably
is what you press! I think you thread it normally first. Have you tried www.singershop.com to see if they have a manual online? To do twin-needle stitching, use a twin needle. This is a special needle with one top and then it's two needles below that. You use it instead of the regular needle. You use two spools of thread and one bobbin with twin-needle stitching. You'll have two straight lines on top and a zig-zaggy looking thread on the bottom. If there are two upper thread pins, put one spool on each. If not, just stack the spools, making sure that they unwind in opposite directions. Thread one thread all the way through and then the other. If the type of tension mechanism permits, it's best to have the two threads on opposite sides of that metal disk so they don't wear on each other as much. Skip the final thread guide on the needle clamp for one of the threads. Dragonfly "Cina" wrote in message ... My SO is having a mini conniption, cause I just brought home *another* sewing machine. Open the plate that covers the bobbin, is ther a button there?
If so press it until it stays down, run the machine with the needle threaded, the bobbin should wind in place. Do not wind real fast, slow is best. Thank you Dragonfly, Bonnie, nb, and IMS for your help! The button I was talking about is on the right side of the machine (next to a lever that unlocks the throat plate) and it did the trick! I wound the bobbin most of the way, called SO away from his computer to show him, and we both oohed and aahed while it finished winding. So nifty! I just finished rearranging my sewing space... I've got one machine set up for piecing, one for freehand quilting, and now this one for satin stitching... finally I can finish the buttonholes on the shirt I started for my dad last father's day! Hooray! Cina doing happy dance |

wouldn't it be nice if someone invented a foolproof way to wind bobbins? I
wound 3 tonight, and I managed to screw up one completely (threw the thread away, cussed a lot), and ran out of thread on the third. If I had a handheld machine that I could just pop the bobbin and the thread in, it'd make the task go so much easier, and I wouldn't have to rethread a winking machine needle!
