Default Question on Silk Batting

Greetings All -

Just wondering how good an investment in the silk would be versus the other
choices in batting, and the preferred usage of such.

TIA,

Eva

I think the expense would be prohibitive! But, oh what luxury!
I have a 100+ y/o crazy quilt with 2 layers of very thin silk batting
(one between the fancy pieces & fabric foundation, and another
layer between the blocks and the backing) It is very thin and light-
weight, the batting itself though also very thin is opague.
If you use it, could I have the trimmings from it please? g

It is very expensive, but at a show someone was selling it and had a
sample in a hoop so you could take a few stitches in it. O my gosh,
even without a thimble and with a big needle, I had the tiniest, most
consistent stitches ever! It was like quilting through air! ( I bought
a sampler pack, but haven't used any of it yet).

Well, with silk you run into the whole storage thing. Archival storage
of silk is different than archival storage of cotton. Are you thinking
"heirloom quilt" or everyday quilt and when it wears out it wears out?

Then again, you'll be dead and the museum person will have to deal with
it, so how much do you care? :-)

Something an awful lot of applique-ers don't think about.

Unless you are thinking of a silk quilt...sounds luxurious!
