Default fuzzy mat question

I cut lots of polar fleece on my mat and now it's full of fuzz in the
cracks. It rubs out with lots of finger pressure, but there's got to be
an easier way. It's not the first time I've done this, but this time
the entire mat is full of fuzz.

Without having to go out and buy a special product (if there is such a
thing) what do you use to clean the fuzzies from your rotary cutting
mat? I wondered if a soft rubbery vegetable brush might work. I know
lots of elbow grease will get it off, but my shoulder is hurting lately
and I want something easier. Any ideas??

Hi Denise: At work our board gets the fuzzies from a dull blade most of the
time. I usually clean it up by taking 3 inch masking tape (plentiful supply
at work ) and wrapping it around my hand ( sticky side out ) and pulling it
out of the cracks, we do this for loose threads from trimming embroidered
garments also. Maybe this will work for the polar fleece fuzzies also.

I use a green scrubby kitchen thing. It comes with a green corse thing
on one side and the other side is a plain sponge. I get them at the
dollar store. 12 for $1. I use them in the kitchen all the time too.
Cheap to throw away.

Several months back, I believe it was Jennifer Chiavierini who said that
using the little styrofoam peanuts that come in packages would clean a
cutting mat. I haven't tried it yet, but she had success with it. If you
don't have one handy, I would think a nylon scrubber would work as well.
Good luck.

Duct tape!

-- Jo in Scotland

Duct tape is good and also one of the lint rollers. One thing extra that
helps is to gently roll the mat so that it curves just enough to open the
"cuts" while you go over it with the tape. Mine was a mess after doing a
flannel raggedy quilt (just a baby size) but I got most of the fuzzies out.

LOL! As Red would say, "Spare the duct tape, spoil the job."
