copyrighted generated charts rant

While I am not usually concerned about the charts on e bay. I was really
bothered by a bunny chart generated from the computer. It was a greeting
card from Inter Art and I thought maybe was a real chart. When I asked about
it she said" Yes we design and produce our own patterns." Most were from
photos but this was from a greeting card from a very talented artist. I do
not consider generating a chart "designing".

I know a lot of designer will let you make charts but selling this for 7.99
was just a bit much.

I keep away from being the copyright police but she did really bother me
with that comment. If she said Yes I got it off the card I would have
probably ignored her.

Oh well I am off to work so much for my rant.

Unless this "publisher" got a license from the artist or whoever owns
the copyright, this person can be liable for a copyright infringement
case.

It's not likely, the owner of a commercial piece of art gives
"permission" to use artwork for others to profit by.......most
commercial artists will license their art images for an advance and
royalty fees......but also be aware that there are copyright holders who
may not want their art done as needlework chart too.

As you say, we can't be copyright police but it doesn't hurt to know the
law......ignorance of the law isn't an excuse.

Nor do I.

Course, most here know that the computer generated junk out there is one of my
major pet peeves.

Last week I ranted about "free charts" from copyrighted images. Charging
outrageous prices for that crap is worse, but thinking that because it's being
given away makes it "legal" is just wrong as well.

I will never buy a chart based solely on a computer mock-up, or worse, based
solely on the original image, not on the charted image at all!
