I am really out of the loop. When did all of this new format take
place? Has rec.crafts.textiles.needlework changed forever? Where is
everyone?

I read this group via Google and I think the change happened about a
week or so ago. I don't mind it, but it seems like it's taking even
longer for new posts to show up (unless it's just a slow time with the
holidays coming up). So I don't know if the new format has anything to
do with it, but I've definitely noticed a drop in posts lately.

It is a beta, too--as such they'll probably welcome any feedback about the
new format, how easy/difficult it is to use, suggestions on making it
better...

Google Groups recently updated their look and feel amongst many other things.
Since your headers indicate you are posting via them, I would say that is why
things look different to you. The UseNet itself has not undergone any
significant change in message formatting.

Hey- if you notice, next to the poster's name is a "show options" link.
If you click this, it shows the poster's email address, as well as a
bunch more links- one of which is "Report Abuse". I imagine this will
come in handy if (or when) those long-winded foul-mouthed crossposters
show back up. Since the format change, I haven't seen many if any of
those. (coincidence?)
I wasn't entirely happy with the new look, as my home computer has a
15" monitor, and all the text gets scrunched sideways, and sometimes
the ads on the right column overlap the posts, but the "report abuse"
button might make up for that problem.
Just my uneducated opinion shrug

About the only thing I have ever known people get flack from their
ISPs for is racism, extreme profanity. Cross posting, overly long
posts, 'fraid not.

Besides which, people who are deliberately spamming newsgroups etc. do
not use their real addresses lol To avoid spam my address is
munged and when you click on show options, nothing you see there is
workable. Poor Lucretia died these many centuries ago lol

Unless someone uses a program to forge headers it's very easy to find out
what ISP they're using.
