Got served at work today. Have to appear in court tomorrow. I was
supposed to have 36 hours notice, got just over 24. My lawyer has been
out of town. Fortunately, he has to be at a sentencing hearing in the
federal building across the street from the county courthouse a little
more than an hour before I need him, so he'll be there. Poor man gets no
time to rest, and I'm going broke with attorney's fees.

I'm sure my ex was trying to embarrass me by having me served at work.
I'm also sure my boss and coworkers think he's a major jerk now. Called
my lawyer's office as soon as I got the paperwork.

My ex is going to look like such an ass. Especially when I prove I have
him on tape breaking the gag order imposed by the judge regarding
discussing this with the children.

My horoscope looks good, and I could use whatever good luck I can muster
before court. On my side, I just know I'm right.

Now I'm ****ed as hell. Went to the courthouse (as was ordered) at 3:15.
Hearing was supposed to be at 3:45. An hour later, I finally asked someone
what was going on. Courtroom was dark. Apparently, the hearing had been
cancelled all day. No one bothered to inform me.

Some grim facts you will have to learn to live with: Lawyers play games. So
do judges and court clerks and administrators. Find out whom to call before
you leave to go to a hearing.
Call your lawyer's office to see what's the plan.
Call your court clerk's office.
Call again before you leave work to see if anything's changed.
I used to have a doctor who was equally inconsiderate of other
people's time. He would book 3 times the number of patients he could
possibly see, let them all die of old age waiting in the waiting room and
then go deliver a baby. Getting to the doctor's office was a major project
for me to arrange and I always called to see what my chances really were.
Pick your battles, Mystified. Getting a court to run on schedule is not
one you can win, but you can, at least, defend yourself from useless trips.
