Default Dimebag Darrell

Howdy!

The "Pantera boys" live here in Arlington.
For the last year or so they've had a huge banner across
the front roof of their house announcing "Damageplan"
as their new band. Kind of funny as it's just an average-looking
ranch style house, nothing fancy in their neighborhood.
About 10 yrs. ago, I came home from my full-time job
at the quilt shop to find a mess of boys on the side porch,
sitting around talking and laughing and playing music. One
of them (not an Abbot, tho') was "one of the guys
from Pantera and some of his friends, Mom,", my kids explained,
friends of the kid across the street. "We're hungry, Mom!"
and a chorus of "Hi, Mom! We're hungry!" followed.
So I called the pizza place for delivery. g These guys
were all so nice and funny and courteous (funny--pizza will do that!).
Last year my older son attended a few of the Dallas Starz
hockey games, and a couple of times sat w/ Dimebag Darrel
and/or VinneyPaul. "Nice guys, like always!" I was told.
Younger son Eli, a drummer, has been friends with several
friends of the Pantera/Damageplan group. "Dimebag's the
nicest person! He's a really huggy guy!" I was told repeatedly.
So it's been quite a shock to learn of the murder of Dimebag
at a concert in Ohio, last night. Today I took flowers by the
Abbot boys' house, asking a police officer to add my offering
to the growing pile of floral tributes and cards and letters
mounting by the mailbox. There are cameras set up across
the street, a mobile t.v. news van parked there, as well as
several police officers directing traffic.
*sheesh* There are crazy people out there, looking to do
crazy things. Hug your loved ones; wrap them in a quilt of your love.

Bless you all, RCTQ.

Thank you for adding a glance into the real person that the media left out.

Sheesh I did it again. Meant to close a window in which I was going to
respond, then changed my mind. Thanks for the message Sandy. It's nice to
hear a personal story about someone who is going to be publicly discussed.
My thoughts are with those who knew and loved him. I also have to mentally
send out a hug to our Joan....this has to be painful for her to think about
too. Take care.

You are so right and I greatly appreciate your thinking of me. Any such
seemingly senseless violence is disturbing, but when it's a situation that's so
close to home, it takes on added significance.
