Default Advice please: melt-in surface treatments?

I am making ornaments that have small glass pieces with exposed edges. I
am going to use a quickfire kiln to fire-polish the edges. I am
interested in also creating interesting surface effects on the face of
the pieces, perhaps things that would bond/melt in the kiln.

Any ideas? Glass bits? Metal bits? ??

Thanks
David
