Just how much fabric do you have????
I agree Kathy. I have a fabric collection, which is fairly extensive.
But stash..... nope. Pati, grinning and ducking in Phx Kathy Applebaum wrote: I don't have any stash. None at all. So don't even THINK about pulling up the vans to raid it all. ;-) |

Too funny! What a perfect outlook on life, too.

If the snow came.... I got more fabric!!!!! OT is not just for "Off Topic". My son still laughs and tells people that, in the middle of the night, when the first flake hit the ground I would sit up from a dead sleep because of the resounding KACHING!! sound it made of the cash register. Just how much fabric do you have????
I have more than I can use during the next five years. I consider all that
lovely fabric my "retirement stash." I re-entered the work force way, way too late to build up any kind of serious retirement fund, so I consider my fabric stash a hedge against the day when I can no longer afford to buy fabric. As Janis Joplin once sang, "Get it while you can!" -- Carolyn in The Old Pueblo If it ain't broke, you're not trying. --Red Green If it ain't broke, it ain't mine. --Carolyn McCarty If at first you don't succeed, switch to power tools. --Red Green If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer. --Carolyn McCarty "JPgirl" wrote in message oups.com... Well Since it was so nice and neat I decided to count up just how much I had in that 'little' stash of mine. Turns out I have over 230 metres of fabric (insert googly eye emoticon here), and that doesn't count the other 10-20 metres I have set aside for projects on the go. I also have a big rubbermaid container FULL of scraps. All of this has been collected in the past year! I have them seperated into four groups, general prints, plaids, childrens prints, and solids. Last winter I was driving a snow plow and making some spare money, whenever I got paid I would head down to the Fabricland clearance centre and pick through their sale tables, which were often on clearance themselves at 50% off. So I would pick up almost ANYTHING that was resonably pretty and the proper fabric for quilting, cotton or a cotton poly blend is ok with me as long as it doesn't feel or look crappy I bought it! Most of the yardage I have was bought anywhere from $1-3 a metre. I need MORE!!!!!! I think I have a problem |

Just how much fabric do you have????
When I get ready to straighten out my stash it becomes a real 'stash bash'.
At last count, a bit over a year ago, there was better than 1500 yards of fabric in the cupboard and several hundred fat quarters under the bed. Well I have let my niece go to it on the fat quarters and there is about 1/3 less there. The yardage is another story. I have used some but since I haven't done to much as far as cutting new quilt tops the only thing for the stash to do is grow and grow and grow. Until I can get things in order enough to pull all the fabrics out again I am afraid there is no place to put another scrap. I have slowed down my fabric purchases a great deal over the last year or so. With my health getting in my way there was little reason to buy something that I knew I wouldn't be able to put to use right away. I have been working mostly with scraps over the last year, except for the quilt tops for the grand kids. I have a big basket filled with larger scraps that I cut into pieces for double wedding ring quilts that I am always planning to make. I love making those scrappy quilts. When I sort my fabrics I try to sort generally by color. There are a few exceptions I make to the color rules. Reproduction fabrics are a category of their own as are quilting fabrics with metallic prints. I also separate holiday prints and novelty prints. The biggest problem I have with my fabric is the weight of the fabrics themselves. On several occasions the shelves have given under the weight and that presents a problem. I believe I am going to have to free up more space for my stash sooner than not. Of course for the record, the stash is protected by the neighborhood QI's. julia "JPgirl" wrote in message oups.com... "Maureen Wozniak" wrote in message lobal.net... yes, indeed you do. You don't have nearly enough. VBG. I''m in the middle of a fairly big cleanup and rootle through my studio. Cleaned out my 4 big drawers of quilting fabric. And my yarn/regular sewing fabric closet. All that's left is my fabric shelf (where the little pieces live) and under my table. I don't think I can count high enough to determine how much fabric I have. Maureen Don't count, use a spreadsheet!! LOL Ms P |

treadle in pieces was Fabric therapy or lack thereof (was Just how much fabric do you have????)
I stopped with Jerry the other day on the way home from my friend's
funeral at a yard sale and he had a treadle there. It was in very poor condition and would have had to have a major overhaul to get it working. I told him if he was lucky he might get $25.00 from someone who was not knowledgeable about such things. It looked to be between a 1915-1922 model Singer with severe water and mold damage and a lot of surface rust. However the most I would give him would be $5.00. He was ready to take it but I didn't want to do a major restore. Not when I know if I keep my eye open eventually I may find another one like the one I use now that is in perfect shape that I paid $25.00 for. Oh how I love my treadle. julia I am indeed! My "new" treadle has been in pieces on my sewing room floor for a month, and I haven't been even CLOSE to my fabric shelves. I am oh, so close to getting it all reassembled, but you know how those projects go -- two steps forward and a step-and-three-quarters back! LOL -- Kathy A. Just how much fabric do you have????
Hmmmmm, I don't know how much I have. Usually the only appropriate
answer is "not enough" LOL. I am trying to be "good" and not buy so much because there is a sewing machine I dearly want and should really be saving every penny in the wild hope I can afford it. But......I keep running into garage sales where there are such good bargains on vintage or odd fabric. And TWO new LQS have opened in town since the old one closed in July. It's hard not to just nibble a little. Do any of you wonder if you have an addiction? I mean a REAL addiction? I sometimes wonder if I do. When I feel really lousy, I go out and buy something fabricky (even a good skirt at a garage sale that can be cut up for squares will do) and I feel better. Oh well, safer than drugs, cleaner than booze and cheaper than therapy I guess.
