Default OT - Back home in Dundee, Scotland

Hello group!
I've been back in Dundee for about 24 hours now, and just finished
deleting all the spam in my inbox, opening all my post, and yesterday
went out to get some fresh vegetables and fruit, and bring my cat
Sasha home from "Auntie Dawn's house". I think she purred all night
long. She somehow gained about 2 kg (5 pounds?) in 5 weeks, even
though they fed her the same amount of the same food which I do.
Apparently she didn't move very much while at Dawn and Neil's.
So now I need to find a job, pack up all my things and find a new
place to live. My brother in Oregon wants me to go and see him (I
haven't seen him in nearly 10 years, and we haven't lived together
since I was 13) and it is quite tempting. However, I want teaching
practice, now that I have the CTEFL, and I'm not finding any work on
the websites of the colleges and universities near Eugene Oregon.
I'm also applying to places here in Scotland, but I'm not ruling out
going back to Russia or on to Asia or somewhere else. The plan was to
be away until June, and it seems it will be most easy to follow that
plan if I can't find a job here quite soon. Wish me luck, and if
there is a college near you that needs an English teacher for speakers
of foreign languages, let me know!

everything up in Scotland?? Also, what is happening with your stuff in
Russia? Is everything okay??

cyberhugs, should you need them,

Me and all of my stuff is back from Russia now. I'm packing up all
my things in Scotland, because about 3 weeks before I was off to
Russia (for a year), my partner said he wanted to split up after 5
years together. He's been working in the US for the better part of
the last 2 years, and I guess we just grew apart - still, a surprise
for me. Then, when I was in Russia and doing the CTEFL course, he
emailed me and said he was going to charge me for storing my stuff in
his flat (previously he had said I could sort it out when I came back
in June 2005) or rent if I came back earlier. Well, I can't survive
on a Russian wage and also pay for storage, so I had to come back.
Now I'm looking for work - here in Scotland, or in Oregon (I could
stay with my brother) or in Alaska (I could stay with my sister) or
somewhere else altogether. And I'm getting ready to put my stuff in
storage, because I have to move out of this flat, so that I'm not
paying rent to my former partner anymore.

Crap! I'm sorry for your predicament. Thanks for the explanation. Though
it's not really our business, it's good to know the circumstances.
Sometimes our imaginations can run away with us. I hope you find something
soon. Should we put a quilter's hex on your "ex"? Let's see what would be
appropriate....I'm sure we could come up with something. "may all his knots
(figuratively) come untied" very existential
Anyway, I hope all works out for you.

Jo,

There are lots of colleges in the area here around Dallas. I am trying
to get an office job working at a college so I will keep my eyes and
ears open for an ESL (English as a Second Langueage) teacher. That's
what they call Teachers who teach English to foreign students. I've seen
openings for them before, so I'll look again.

Sending you big cyber hugs...

Babs

Ouch, now I feel like a total @ss. If you are interested in teaching in
NY, I can take a look for you....and since we have 2 sleeper-sofas, you
could always crash with us for a while - we could turn the basement into
a mini-apartment for the duration if needed.

Larisa, sending mega-cyberhugs your way and evil thoughts towards old
"what's-his-name" :-)

Hi Johanna, I am so sorry your plans were derailed. As far as a teaching
position, I bet that Universities in the US would be fighting for your
services. University of Texas, Dallas, Austin etc. and Oklahoma University
is a great school to try too.

Good luck! Linda
