NZ earthquake info
Hi all,
I just received this amazing information from a dear friend in NZ and thought you might like to have a look at what they are going through. http://www.christchurchquakemap.co.nz/ The aftershocks are still going. We get a lull for a few hours and then another cluster of them, mostly around 3.5 - 4.5. Hopefully they will begin to lessen in strength and frequency over the next week or two, but there is still a 10% possibility of a bigger aftershock of 5-6. Nothing we can do though, except try an stay sane, and hope for the best. -- Di I'm creative! You can't expect me to be neat too. Vic Australia |

I don't know Polly, I am just grateful I haven't been through something like
that. The only earthquake I have felt was an extremely small one that went through the Mornington Peninsula in the past few years, even then I thought it was big truck driving past. -- Di I'm creative! NZ earthquake info
Polly,
We went through the bad earthquakes in Italy in 1976. The stress of the aftershocks was worse than the initial earthquake (at least in our area)! Many people slept in tents, or haywagons, or whatever they had. Even I, after many sleepless nights, with a newborn, pitched a tent in our front yard!! We suffered only some minor cracks, but neighbors in old stone houses had much more damage. My husband volunteered to help out in one devastated city with member of the USAF, and the damage was unbelievable. The clock in our little village stopped exactly when the earthquake hit at 9:06 p.m. It was an experience I never hope to go through again. Most disasters hit and then they are over.....the aftershocks wear you out mentally and physically. My prayers are with the people in NZ. -- Alice in PA http://community.webshots.com/user/twosonsatpsu "Polly Esther" wrote in message ... but what do you do? How do you try to stay safe? OT NZ earthquake info
The aftershocks are still happening down there. Three in the last 4.5
hrs (weaker but shallow). A week of continuing activity & it is playing emotional havoc on so many people who dont normally get rattled & many are still in emergency accommodation. Chch city had many beautiful historic (for NZ) brick churches & other buildings and alot of these have/had to be demolished - very sad for the people there.
