Default Quiltsmart......

Not long ago there was a discussion about quiltsmart -- the product
that lets you make complicated patterns by a combination of flip and
stitch and fusible backing. I just want to go on record as saying
these are NOT idiot proof.

I've always wanted to make a Texas Star. I'm from Texas and I love the
look. So I broke down and bought the "little bitty" Texas star in the
quiltsmart line. The whole thing will be about 18 inches across when
it's finished. If it's finished. Let me assure you, points do not all
match, lines do not all line up and yes, I did stitch faithfully on
the lines.

The problem is the same problem I have with paper piecing. Something
in the flip and stitch action triggers a massive gap in my brain and
my hands. It just does not work. As miserable as unstitching a seam
is, it's nothing compared to unstitching a seam that's adhered to
fusible backing.

So, I may just bull on and get it done. Probably. I've already cut all
the little rectangles of fabric and I have no idea what I'd do with
them otherwise. ...... maybe confetti.

Elsie Campbell has a starch, stretch & iron technicque for doing that star
(at least I think it's that one). I don't know if she's put it in a book
.... probably has ... but it was once in a Quilters Newletter Magazine
article. I took her workshop and it did work wonderfully!

Sunny, your post sure made me smile. Wouldn't it be lovely if quilt
patterns would add a new category? In addition to: easy, intermediate and
challenging, they could include some that are 'idiot proof'. I think I've
seen a wall sample of the method that has annoyed you. Fortunately, the
display quilt was just enough mismatched to tell me that was something I
didn't want to try. Polly
