OT: Question about Israel & Judea -- was that whole continentsdiscussion
Tia Mary wrote:
AHHH, OK, thanks. I'm still confused on why there is biblical reference to both Judea and Israel. The feeling I have -- and mind, it's just a feeling of a memory from bible lessons of long ago -- is that Judea was the biblical name for the actual land but Israel was more of an emotional or cultural entity. Nope. Isreal was the name for the actual land as well: http://www.esek.com/jerusalem/iudaea.html Elizabeth -- *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~living well is the best revenge~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* The most important thing one woman can do for another is to illuminate and expand her sense of actual possibilities. --Adrienne Rich *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* |

L You are right there. As a ;ittle kid in England I was a stamp collector, (still am actually) , and learned a lot more geography and history than probably the average kid. Pre-TV etc. In fact I have a vivid memory of the "wireless" talking of Italy, and I had a brown Italian stamp in my hand. Prolly ( for Sheena) about 7 years old. Anyway, yes, it was Palestine, and they has their own stamps. I am not sure but for some reason "Palestine Free State" rings in the depths of my memory. Dang, as Cheryl would say, I am getting OLD! Maybe because it rymes with Palestine Mandate? There are calls now for a Palestine Free State, but there has not, to my knowledge (which is certaily fallible) been a Palestine Free State in the past.
