And where do you put the white supremacists called "the Arian Nation?" Victoria Well, hells bells, that's a rather odd question since I have been discussing "nationality" as it pertains to belonging to or "coming from" a specific, country or physical nation. As far as I am concerned, the "Arian Nation" folks belong on another planet! As far as I am concerned, they would belong to a "cultural" nation, not one that has a nationality (as in belonging to a specifivc country or physical nation) ascribed to it. |

I know Brat already said exactly what I was thinking, but I have to say it as well. I'm from the United States but I don't call myself a United Statesian. Just in case you haven't thought it through properly, I don't recall seeing any country call Catholicville or Protestanttown, have you? You aren't an United Statesian because you live in the United States of AMERICA so are called an American. I am a Catholic, Irish-American so I have one "cultural" nationality (Irish-American), one "religious" nationality (Catholic) and one "physical" (for want of a better word) nationality -- American. I was born and raised in this country so that is my physical nationality and PHYSICAL nationality is what I have been talking about. This is the very reason I said that being Jewish isn't a "physical" nationality -- Jewish is a religion, not a physical nation. All I can assume is that something in the beginning of my posts have caused some sort of emotional reaction so they weren't read all the way through because that is what I have said repeatedly. I wasn't addressing other sorts of nationality, just the physical sort as in the actual piece of the planet in which a person has citizenship. CiaoMeow ^;;^ |

You could put the Aryan nation on a nice, all white, ice flow in the Arctic. Preferably with a few absolutely all white polar bears. Dawne Are you trying to poison the poor, underprivileged polar bears. I would think they might get hungry and then you know what might happen. Now if you want to drop them into an iceberg, being sure it's one that won't thaw for tens of thousands of years, that might be a different story. OT: Question about Israel & Judea -- was that whole continents discussion
Joan E. wrote:
I guess I'd always assumed (yeah, yeah, I know...that's a dangerous thing to do), rightly or wrongly, that the term Jewish came from the people of Judea. Could I *possibly* have assumed something correctly for once? Joan There is currently no area of the globe, no physical location marked with the name Judea. Now -- another question if someone would answer it -- I wonder why, when the country of Israel that we know of today was "created", it was called Israel and not Judea? I'm sure this is based on something biblical in nature, but, not being any sort of biblical scholar, I can't even have an informed opinion, hence the question! IIRC, there were the twelve tribes of Israel (this term meaning their religious beliefs) and they originally lived in the part of the world called Judea. There is legal nationality and ethnic nationality and that's it. You were born and raised in the country, so you are legally American. But a Turk born and raised in Germany is not legally German, because the laws there are different. My brother in law was born in Germany, but has no right to German citizenship. On the other hand, even though he never stepped foot in Estonia until he was 60 years old, he does have the right to Estonian citizenship. You are making oversimplified generalizations about a very complext subject. I will say it again -- I am talking about actual physical nationality (this has absolutely nothing to do with a persons religious affiliation or cultural background) as in the piece of the world, the nation, a person actually has citizenship in. CiaoMeow ^;;^ You're still wrong. There is no such thing as British citizenship. A person is a citizen of the United Kingdom, but would still consider themselves Scots, or Welsh, or Irish, or English all of which ARE nationalities, in spite of your contention to the contrary. A nation, by the way, is not a piece of the world. It is a group of people. A country is a piece of the world and a country can contain many nations.
