Default CATS schedule for 2006

I just returned from the Hershey CATS event late last nite. Lots of fun and
wonderful comraderie there (as in all the locations.)

If you are interested, here is the dates and locations for the festivals
next year. This was information we heard at the teachers meeting - I
believe all of these have been locked in. There will be only 3 festivals
next year: Vegas (April 5 - 7), back to Nashville (August 24 - 26) and back
to Hershey (September 28 - 30.) The format of the festival will be
changed, but I don't believe the details are completely firmed up yet. None
of the teachers have heard yet if they are to be invited back, nor which
classes they will be teaching.

There were a lot of comments in the stitchers lounge and around the
fireplaces that the students wanted more challenging classes, longer
classes, and smaller class size (for those advanced classes.) Several of
the teachers have proposed items meeting that criteria, but right now, we're
not certain what the board of directors is thinking.

Stay tuned.......

I wonder why Vegas is Wednesday-Friday and the other two are
Thursday-Saturday? Too bad they dropped Iowa. I was hoping to be able
to make it there next year since I don't have to pay for lodging.
Nashville dates are the only ones that are remotely possible for me and
even that is only marginal. Oh well, I guess until I get a job I really
don't have the money for things like this and if I get a job I won't
have the time...

I echo the sentiment for longer classes. The projects I've actually
finished from events like this are the ones that I could get more than
half-done in class. Then there are all the kits from the one that I was
going to attend but then ended up moving out here and those aren't even
*started*!

Phyllis, how "locked in" are these shows? We had been planning on
going to Vegas next year, anyway, and this would be absolutely *GREAT*
for me! I've always wanted to attend one of these shows! Do you
have any idea *where* in Vegas it's going to be held? Enquiring minds
want to know! )))

At this point in time, we have only very sketchy information about the
sites. As Brenda pointed out, the other two shows are Thurs - Saturday, and
this one is Wed - Friday, so I could have copied the dates down incorrectly.
I don't know either, exactly where it will be scheduled.

Sorry, but except for the dates, I don't really know much. But I'll post
(later) what I find out.

Calling to make my Hershey reservations for next year right now!

Speaking of, is there a section of the Lodge that one
should request if making reservations for CATS?

Thanks,

Ericka,

Not sure what the sections of the Lodge are called, but you want to be
either in the tower near Forebay or the hallway near Forebay (room
numbers start around 2250 and go down, lower in farther away). I always
request the same room (4 years running). I am just around the corner
from the Stitchers Lounge (which is in the tower). From there it is
about a minute (if you walk slow) to most of the classrooms, the hotel
lobby and the shopping market. When you make your reservation you will
be charged immediately for one night's stay at the hotel. If you cancel
a minimum of three days before your arrival your money will be refunded.

Anne,

Thanks so much for this information. I went to Hershey in 2003, driving in
the horrible wind from that hurricane, and stayed in a part of the lodge
that was much further away. Seems like I had to walk outside at some point
to get to my room!

I did Charleston last year and totally missed it this year. I'm going to
call Hershey now and request one of these rooms much closer!

Okay, here's what I got from Tasha at CATS:
"We are definitely going to be in Vegas next year. The dates you have
are correct,
April 5-7. We will be at the Riviera Casino & Convention Center.
Group rate information will be published as soon as it is available on
our website."

WooHoo! I'm gonna be there! )))))))) Guess I'd better get started
on an @badge!

Joan,

Go to the Stitching Festival website
(http://www.stitchingfestival.com/index.html ) and send them a message
asking your questions.

I know sometimes the days of the week for the festival are dependent on the
venue and I am guessing with Las Vegas, they couldn't get the weekend
because of all of the weekend excursions coming into town.

I heard something about it being at the Riviera, but don't know what/where
that is in town, so better check with the festival organizers.
