Q-Snaps question and a hoops/bead question
I'm getting ready to start a large project that requires beading, which
I want to do as I go along. At first I thought I would buy a set of Q-Snaps and try them out. My piece of fabric is 17"x24" - what size of Q-Snaps should I get? Can I get anything bigger than a 17"x17" which is the biggest I could find. Also, if I do use the hoop, as I usually do and bead as I go along, will the hoop harm the beads? The last project I did with beads was on perforated paper and done in hand. Oh, and if I opt for the 17"x17" Q-Snaps, will they harm any beading done? Any other reasonably priced alternatives? What I've done in the past is save the beading until just before I move that segment out of the Qs, do the beading, then move the Qs to the next section I'm stitching. Or save it until last. I do not know if they are available over there but I use Siesta frames
when I am doing beadwork on fabric. They are quite simple pieces of wood that interlock at the corners. They come in various sizes and many sizes of frames can be made. The fabric is attached by drawing pins. I think you call them thumb tacks. Having said that if you know anyone who does woodwork who can make you one. My Dh will make mine to the required size. The wood is about 1/2inch square. If you need to see what I mean email me and I will send you a scan of one DH made me. I do most of my projects that way. Otherwise I use a scroll frame or a needlepoint frame (the wood squares that you tack your work to). The needlepoint frames aren't all that expensive. I really really hate Q-snaps, but that's just me.
