I buy sea salt at Whole Foods Market, in the bulk bin area;
it fits into the salt/pepper shakers just fine.

Finished: One quilt. Full-size, a real beauty; the top was made
by a young woman in Boston who does fantastic handpiecing,
using lovely, dark jewel-tones and very interesting patterns.
I love her work! It's a pleasure to quilt for her.
She trusts me to figure out the quilting pattern, and adjust the
yardage for the back of the quilt, so I put the binding on before sending it
back completely Finished. I added my name to one of the busy-green
fabrics; I know it's there. g
Want pictures? I'll try.

Howdy!
I made up the quilting pattern; black thread on the
darker triangles, straight lines fanning out;
white thread on the lighter strip, in a twisting cable pattern
running from corner to corner; the border has a series of
¼-circles interconnecting. It just looked right when I put it
together. g

We love Whole Foods Market, too; as there are usually
just 2 adults here to feed, we figure we can afford their
better quality food & service. g Chocolate angel food cake--
it's worth the trip to north Arlington for that!
Similar is H.E.B.'s Central Market, just a bit further to Cruise
to Ft.Worth to get to the closest C.M.. YUM!!!

LLLLLLLOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEEEE the handquilting!! There aren't too many
of us around these days you know. We hand quilters must stick together
and spread the word!!!

Particularly liked the blue star quilt -made me want to go and do some
quilting straight away.......
Sadly I am unable to quilt at the moment due to a neck/shoulder
problem -counting the days till I can swing the quilts on the frames
around again........

keep up the beautiful work

Sandy:

I really love that Trip Around the World pattern. Did she design it
herself or was it from a purchased pattern? It's so different from
the standard Trip quilt.

Howdy sandy,
I buy my sea salt at our local "Safeway" supermarket. They sell it in
little bags. We also have a lot of Whole Foods Markets in our area. We
did get a new "Global Market" and they have the best things there.

I dunno, but while we are here can someone enlighten me as to what=20
"Kosher Salt" looks like - and how the h=A3ck can you have salt (sodium=20
chloride) that *isn't* kosher?

As for sea salt, I buy a pack with two 750g drums of it, one of which is =

coarse and goes in the salt mill and one of which is fine and is used at =

the table. I also use the coarse when salting water for pasta and veggie=
s.

This question comes up on the food group all the time. I answer it
there, and I'll answer it here.

You may have noticed that in English the same word can mean many things
depending on what it is used with. Consider:

Flea shampoo
Dog shampoo
Aloe vera shampoo
Dandruff shampoo
Baby shampoo.

The baby shampoo is washing babies' hair, but the flea shampoo is not
for washing fleas nor is the aloe vera shampoo for getting cactus clean
the way the dog shampoo is. The aloe vera shampoo means that aloe vera
has been used as an ingredient, but there are no fleas in the flea
shampoo, and I don't even want to think about processing babies for baby
shampoo.

Kosher salt is sold in all the grocery stores around here. It is the
salt used to draw out the blood when preparing kosher meat ("kashering"
meat). The crystal is larger than free running salt. Kosher salt can
be iodized or not. Most buyers of the product aren't using it to kasher
meat but like the larger crystal for a variety of cooking applications.
The taste can also be a little different than free running salt
depending on additives.

An enormous number of vegetable and non-food products can be considered
kosher or non-kosher depending on how they're manufactured. Consider
the sponge used to wash dishes or the dishwashing detergent. If in
their manufacture some product from a non-kosher animal was used in the
machinery, the items wouldn't be considered appropriate to come into
contact with food. So the concept of a kosher sponge isn't ridiculous
at all.
