What do you do with an ugly quilt in progress?
I don't think it is ugly at all. I would finish it. It's not colors I
really love but I do think it is nice. Every quilt is a learning experience. So keep up the good work. Take Care joanna dealer83 wrote: O.K. here are a few photos. I can't seem to capture the true color of the middle stripe that is a light salmon pink. I was trying to match a color in the berries on the print fabric. (I made the stripes the same width) The red is a cherry red and the green is very dark. I had planned on putting a light olive green narrow border around the whole thing and then a wider border of the salmon pink, followed by binding in the print fabric. All I can see is an off color Italian flag! lol Donnahttp://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/2096853770105202601CvNmny |

What do you do with an ugly quilt in progress?
Howdy!
I'd finish the top, then cut it apart and put it together in a scrappier way. Done it before; can't hurt. I'm about halfway done piecing the top and it's ugly, not slightly off, plain down right ugly. The fabric colors that looked so good together on bolts, look dreadful the further I get along with it. O.k. what do you do? Finish it up and make it a charity quilt, just put it away and take the loss of money spent on the cloth, or what? I can't imagine taking apart all I have done so far to re-use the cuts in another project. I'm venting and am curious to see what you long time quilters do when you get a dud. Donna |

What do you do with an ugly quilt in progress?
I agree with others: this is NOT an ugly quilt! I've used that pattern many,
many times and usually have an "ugh" feeling until I'm all done. NOT ugly! Trixie "dealer83" wrote in message ... O.K. here are a few photos. What do you do with an ugly quilt in progress?
I can't tell you how much your encouragement is helping me with this!
I will sew like I love it and hope it will transform itself in the end with with the quilting. On another note, welcome Ruby. I'm 62 yr. old also and regret not starting quilting sooner too. We have lots to do in the next few years, don't we? lol This is a wonderful group of folks who will help you along the way, if you need it. I can't tell you how much I learned just by reading posts. Thank you friends...Donna |

What do you do with an ugly quilt in progress?
It's nice to meet you, Ruby! I am new to quilting and to this group -- I've
been posting here a couple of months, I think. I have finished a satin-and-taffeta quilt top, a Welsh mini-quilt which I both machine- and hand-quilted, and a Tree Everlasting quilt-top which I am in the process of machine-quilting. I also have a calico Churn Dash quilt top in process, which I plan to both machine- and hand-quilt. I hope that makes sense! I'm 52 and live on the Alabama Gulf Coast. There are a lot of wonderful people here, some of whom I am already privileged to call friends. The quilting resources here are unbelievable -- more expertise than you could ever get in one book and more than I sometimes can handle! There are people here who show in national shows and who have written books, as well as rank beginners like me. Enjoy! ep "Ruby" wrote in message ... Patti wrote: Welcome to the group, Ruby. Hope we'll meet often from now on. Do tell us what you like making and a little bit about yourself, so we can get to feel we know you. . I always thought quilting was very difficult so never thought of even trying it. 2 years ago I saw a crazy quilt class advertised at my local fabric shop. It has been all down hill since then lol. I have taken several quilt courses since and am addicted. Recently finished piecing and layering a stack and wack fan quilt. Also finished a tie down quilt which I am quite happy with. Took a free motion machine quilting course on Monday so am planning on quilting the fan quilt using stripling. I have pieced 4 quilts, but paid to have the first 3 quilted. Decided if I was going to continue I had better learn the quilting part. I wish I had started younger as I am 62. A grand mother of 2 and soon, any day, 3rd. They live in Hawaii and I am in Nova Scotia Canada. Ruby |

The colors were gorgeous and "worked" on the bolt. Once I started the piecing, the hatred set in. It has taken me about eight months to get to this point. I'm just going to bind it and give it to the intended recipient. Some of my friends think it is quite pretty and I hope that the recipient does too. I can't wait to be rid of it now :-) I'll get a picture of it to share with you. You will feel very good about your quilt, believe me! Rita -- Rita L. in MA - One eyed Mutant Ninja Quilter :-) |

Ruby, it's nice to meet you. It seems the path to true love is so similar for most of us. First, a class on a whim, then a turn through the fabric shop, buy a little fabric, see a little more fabric, the books, oh my the books! And before you know it, we're hooked. Big Grin I would love to see photos of any of your quilts. And, of course, we will have to see pics of your stack and whack fan quilt. Welcome to the group! Welcoming hug, Sunny Thank you for the warm welcome. Is there a place where the group posts photos?? ruby |

Sometimes just putting it on the floor, on a sheet and looking at it now and then for a few days changes one perceptions. The colours are lovely and compliment each other well. ruby |
