Incorrect Patterns
Hard for me to tell, since I usually ignore most of the written
instructions. All my quilts start from stash, so there's seldom anything like the right amounts of different fabrics. Quarter yard too little? No problem, just make all the blocks smaller! Directions for lap size and it needs to be double? No problem, just make more blocks, or different sashing/borders, or bigger blocks! It's a good idea to make one sample block before you cut everything, just to see if it works. Roberta in D "dogsnus" wrote in message ... How often do you run into this? A particular quilt pattern I'm making right now is so full of incorrect directions that I no longer trust them and am finding myself having to improvise a lot.In fact, I started going by the photograph rather than the directions. I got the pattern from a Better Homes and Garden applique booklet and so far, I've cut more of one fabric than I need and not enough of another.I've rechecked many times to be sure it wasn't my error. It's not me. I've never used an exact, written down pattern before such as this, so I wonder if I just happened to get a bad pattern, a bad editing job, or is this fairly common? Terri |

I have purchased a kit that had a pattern included. When I bought the kit,
I chatted with the gals who had started a new quilt shop and they were so excited about the pattern because a sister to one of them had just started producing her own patterns. The kit did not match the pattern directions which were very poorly written. I had to make my own decisions with the fabrics without regard to the pattern directions. I called the quilt shop to tell them their reputation as a new shop could be in jeopardy if that was the quality of merchandise they were promoting. I've never gone to their shop. -- Kathyl yup, that's an L http://community.webshots.com/user/kathylquiltz |

same here. i think i yet have to buy fabric following a booklet of
instructions... but most of the time the one screwing up would be me reading them wrong. it is amazing my experiments work in the lab, uh? i like to call it anarchism and i am very proud of it (after all, mom grew up in Spain in the 40s and 50s... some of that must have stuck! she is worse than i am for following directions...) ) Roberta Zollner wrote: Hard for me to tell, since I usually ignore most of the written instructions. I hope you take the time to let Better Homes and Gardens know of their
error. Who knows they may throw some freebies your way. At the very least, hopefully they will correct their error. -- Sandi in New Westminster B.C. Also, when you buy those beautiful quilting books, check the company web pages first. Both Martingale Press (That Patchwork Place) and C&T have corrections pages where you can print out the list of typos and such. This way you can be sure you've got the right measurements before you cut the first block. marcella |
