You have an ironing board??? Gosh how lucky! I use the kitchen floor, or
coffee table with an old flannel sheet for a 'pad'. I've been using the
same old sheet for a year now and it seems to be holding up fine....much
better than it did on the bed!

Shona who hates it when a toe gets stuck in the sheet and makes a big
whopping rip in the middle of the night in NZ

Okay - sigh.........
I am tired of buying a new ironing board cover at WalMart every 3 or 4
months. I need one that will serve a QUILTER! What have you guys found,
and where, that you liked and that lasted?

the blocks I sew generally don't hang over the side of the board anyway.

Hey, that's one advantage to doing miniatures! LOL

Thanks for the cover info -- I'll keep it in mind.

On a totally different subject, I have to go to a business meeting Friday in
Berkeley. Right down the street from Scharffen Berger. Wanna bet I get to
Berkeley early and find I need to kill some time? *snort*

oooooo, Anne sent me some of their chocolate in our 'swap'. Such a pity
because now I know what I am missing when you all talk about it. Don't
suppose a bit of lime green pukeko could entice you to send a bit my way????

I like the fiberglass ones I buy at quilt shows. You can, however,
order them online now.

I have one on my regular ironing board, one on my big board and a
rectangle pad that I take to classes and sit on a table.

Oh goody! If DH is lucky, he may get one for Christmas....or he may not
EG

Anne sent me the mocha and semisweet (1 oz bars). I'd love to have them
again and try the other two flavours as well how every many you feel like
sending.

What size pukeko do you want? The usual fq or more? And I promise not to
take forever getting a stamp snort.

Shona looking forward to checking the mail again in NZ

Sounds like one or two of everything will do you! It's so hard to choose a
favorite. I usually waiver between semisweet and nibby.

Let me see what sizes / assortments they have first. I'll email you Friday
with the haul.

My favorite ironing board cover may not be available any longer. I was in the
same boat as you when I found a cover at Sears made of Nomex. It was expensive.
It lasted over 12 years. (Nomex is what race car drivers' suit are made of.
The original cover I got said they tested it with an iron set as high as it
could go down on it for 12 hours.......)
I did find some replacements when the first one wore out, but only two and I
bought both of them. They were/are flimsier than the first one I got, but still
lasting a few years. So, I don't know if Sears is carrying them any longer, but
you can check. (Cost was about $20 or so )

Of course you could also make one with heavy cotton duck. Use a neutral light
color to prevent color transfer.

I also bought one of the "Miracle" covers. But it is slick. So I have another
over it so my pieces don't scoot off the board. Right now the second cover is
the Nomex, but it looks like it may end up being muslin or duck.

Am I the only one that doesn't like this ironing board cover? Mine stained
so badly whenever water spilled on it, it looks disgusting! Plus, it
definitely retains the heat - more than I would like. When I tried to iron
silks, it was very slippery (not that I iron a lot of silks, but still . .
..), so I don't like it for slippery type fabrics. Now, I see that it is
coming apart from the edge, so I won't be buying another one. I'd be
happier getting one from Target if that is my best choice, but I'll be
curious to hear other feedback.

Kathy,

I think I just read that Scharffenberger is making milk chocolate now - I
don't care for dark chocolate, although I know chocolate snobs say that is
the only really good chocolate!

Will you get a chance to go to New Pieces while you are here too?

Pauline
