Default Mountain Mist batt, one more time

Yesterday, when I saw the Grrrr posts about Mtn Mist, my stomach sort of
turned. I had an order in for some and was so concerned that it too would be
only fit for the birds' nests.
Today mine arrived: 100% cotton, quilt 6" apart - This one's name is
Cream Rose. It really does feel as lovely as rose petals. It makes my
standard batt feel like a cat's tongue. I wonder what was going on with them
for some of you to have gotten such a raw deal. Polly

I'm not familiar with that one Polly. But I'm sure glad it's nice. I
suppose they have different types and I grabbed the bottom of the line
cotton one. If I try it again, I'll look for the Cream Rose "model".

Hey Kathy:

The Mountain Mist the Polly is referring to is on the order of Warm and
Natural. I got some samples when I went to the Houston Quilt Show. The
cotton batting you bought is the kind my mother bought to make quilts back
in the 40's and 50's.

If you get some of the Rose batting, say the crib size to try, you might
change your mind about Mountain Mist.

But I love warm and natural! I was going to try the Mountain mist when I
was writing the list for DH but I knew how much I adored W&N so I just got
him to get that.

Hi Polly,
My local store carried the Mtn Mist Cream Rose and I loved
the product. The only disadvantage was they only carried it
in the crib quilt size. When I mentioned this to the
manager, she informed me they where no longer carrying the
product! It was to expensive and it didn't move quickly.
Where did you order yours from?

I've used some of the White Rose batting and really loved it. I too
wonder what is going on.

Mine came from Batt Mart. I'm not sure I would have suffered through their
turtle-like pace except I really was determined to try the Cream Rose.
Placed my order 9/5 and it arrived 10/7 after a great deal of reminding from
me. Their site is www.storesonline.com/site/battmart. The batting package
gives 1-800-345-7150 and also , one more -
www.stearnstextiles.com I never know what size one of my quilts might
become so I begin with queensize and piece or cut as the quilt tells me.
I had been wanting to try a fine batt for a long time and this one
surely does make me smile. Polly

Thanks, I never thought to read the package. I'm sure
I still have one upstairs. I like the idea of getting a
case - makes me think I'll make 4 quilts quickly!

There are several different Mtn Mist batts. The cheap one is just that.
I've heard okay stuff about the Rose batts though.

And there are some people that absolutely love Mtn Mist.
So, just like machines, one is not the "best" for everyone.

I love the Quilter's Dream batting. It is available in several "thicknesses"
and is wonderful to touch. It also seems to be better to hand quilt through
than W&N. (They have both cotton and poly batts, I am talking about the
cotton.)
Am also looking forward to using the Hobbs Heirloom I have on hand.
