This is a multimedia piece my son did when he was 9. I think this is when
he
started getting a "thing" for fabric. LOL It's called "My Backyard" (we
live
in the mountains).

This is one of our earliest quilts. We made it for his aunt for Xmas.
Like I
said, we've been mainly creating ragged-edge quilts, but are ready to step
into
something a little more difficult.

Hullo Cabn
For many years, I have been fascinated and absorbed when hearing of
autistic children with the savant syndrome. I guess that is similar to
the great gift your son has. It is wonderful and to be nurtured as you
are doing. What a treasure, that he wanted to use his gift for other
people. Working together will, I'm sure, be a great experience for both
of you, as well as benefiting the homeless people.
Thanks for telling us about your motivation and 'work in progress'. You
will find that there are many folk on here who do amazing work for
charity. I applaud you all.

Thank you for your kind post. I think that the most thrilling aspect of it for
me is that it takes him beyond the narrow focus of his earlier obsessions
(maps, socks, menus), and shows that he is aware and thinking about people out
in the world. Showing empathy for people who aren't a part of his circle is a
huge step for him.

I'm truly hoping that this particular "obsession" will stay with him for
awhile, because I've come to enjoy quilting myself, and it's something we can
do for a couple of hours a day together. :-)

Sure. I can't exactly call it a "painting" because it's been created with a
lot of different componants. Paints, markers, fabric, etc. It was displayed
under the category of "multi-media".

Wow! He *is* good! Love that landscape piece!
