18th century reference to "Diamond tens glass"
Anyone with an interest in antique glass know what "diamond tens
glass" would have referred to in the 18th century? "TO BE SOLD, BY Capt.Gideon Ball, at his House near the Orange Tree Tavern, Diamond tens Glass, Nuns Threads, Fans, Crates of Vials, and sundry other European Goods." |

It probably refers to the pinched diamond pattern created by threading and
then pinching the threads to form diamond shapes. This link http://users.ticnet.com/mikefirth/glossoth.htm#NEOCLA shows a drawing. An alternative, less likely, is mold blown in a diamond pattern mold, like the purple one about half way down this page. http://users.ticnet.com/mikefirth/glgaffnj.htm -- Mike Firth Hot Glass Bits Furnace Working Website http://users.ticnet.com/mikefirth/hotbit46.htm Latest notes "Jim Chevallier" wrote in message om... That does seem probable, though I remain bemused by the 'tens'. |
