does he simply refuse to cut his toenails? How does he wear shoes if they
are so long? Can you cut them when he's sleeping, duck taped to the bed posts? Or can you make him wear socks to bed? Cyndi in ABQ |

Cyndi in ABQ He cuts them, but they grow fast. They are also very sturdy for all they are not thick. Comes down to it, both of us have great nails that grow fast. Must be something about the vegetarian diet. DH thinks it's a right old pain though, being a musician and all. NightMist -- The wolf that understands fire has much to eat. |

OOh, now waterbeds with those talons, that's an amazing thought!

Back in DK, where we bought the bed we are still using, people typically use
2 twin-size beds side by side and attached to a joint headboard. And they are very often a box spring mattress topped by a "roll-up mattress", which is more like a very beefy mattress pad. In our case, about an inch and a bit thick. The washing machine will hold one of them with a little encouragement. Once you get your mattress mended, maybe something like this would be a good investment. Roberta in D "NightMist" schrieb im Newsbeitrag ... I was only partially tongue in cheek there. Id be beside myself if DHs nails wrecked havoc on our mattress like that! Diana So would I! I had to get a replacement price for our mattress when we renewed the house contents insurance a couple of years back, and a replacement for the one we have would be £1400! Just for the mattress! The bed's irreplaceable, as my dad built it. To get a decent carpenter to build one just like it would probably cost the same as the mattress! And that my dears is why I am mending instead of replaceing! The stupid mattress and box springs are an off size king, 75 inches by 75 inches (190.5cm x 109.5 cm). I can find a replacement, yes, but boy would it cost! Most common seems to be either an inch larger or three inches smaller. So it would be either shell out heavy for the mattress, or shell out heavy for a whole new set. I swear one of these days I am going to build Odysseus's bed and use a leather bag stuffed with straw for a mattress. Any complaints and I will declaw DH myself! The very reason we never bought one! If I am sleeping in a wet spot I don't want it to be because the mattress is leaking! I am thinking hard about "pj sneakers" a la the first Chucky movie. They should be quite simple to fashion. I can make moccasins after all. Some warm suede booties for sleeping in might just appeal to him. Suede sleep boots sound like a winner, but you might want to consider the friction of suede to sheet. I don't wear socks to bed because they grab onto the sheets and I have to work to thrash my feet around at night. This will be esp. frictionish with flannel sheets. Speaking of moccasins, anybody know where to lay hands on some brain tanned leather? Moscow (Idaho) hide and fur lists brain tanned deer, worth looking at least if you don't mind ordering. http://www.hideandfur.com/ liz young in rainy california (it stopped for about 12 hours today) |

I'll use a soft split instead if I make these. Speaking of moccasins, anybody know where to lay hands on some brain tanned leather? It is just scarey seeing prices for stuff you are used to bartering for. At least it gives me an idea what my mince, baked goods and quill embroidery might be worth.
