Patti you almost have to have a way to gauge a quarter inch at pressur foot
level. Since I have a foot that is quarter inch on each side of the needle
there is no need to put the fabric in "the wrong way round". I just guide the
left side of the pressure foot along the seam line. It really does work well.

If you can adjust the needle to the left that will work too, or make the
investment of a quarter inch foot. G

I've heard this several times before, but I'm not really sure how it's
done. Does it mean that you have to put your work into the machine the
'wrong' way round? I use my stitch position for a 1/4" seam, rather
than a foot. So to get the right seam allowance following the last seam,
that seam would, I think, have to be on the right of my needle.
It would be a good thing if I could get to grips with this. I would
love to use really fine lines - all over the place!!!

I'm not Paegan, but when you piece in a quarter inch wide strip, use the
edge of your quarter inch foot along the already sewn seam line to get an
accurate and straight quarter inch piece.

Thanks so much for this, Pati.
I might actually *have* the foot!! I have just always used the seam
width button. I'll check; and, if not, buy one. Believe it or not, I
just had never thought of it.
I do so many small things, it will be really useful to master it.

You guys are just so nice for all the compliments. It's nice to share
them with people who appreciate all the hard work it takes to make
one. I've never sold a quilt for money, but have given many away.
But only to people who will understand that they really are a labor of
love.

Regards
Susan

PS the head popping up in quilt 1 is one of my springer spaniels. His
name is Brisco. Here's a complete pictu

Patti:
Be sure to check BOTH edges of the foot for accurate 1/4"
measurement. Pati has one that measures 1/4" on both sides
(lucky!) but my Pfaff 1/4" foot has 3/8" along left side. Must
have made sense to the engineer who designed it but it does not
make sense to me. Perhaps there are garment sewing reasons for
that size. Anyhow, check your own presser feet. Don't ya just
love it w hen we all three chime in on a thread. Must confuse the
rest of the world though!! Grins from:
