Default Roll Call!

As newbies come and introduce themselves, we all say "hi" back to them. But,
while we learn a bit about them, they don't get to know us very easily. (ok,
except for a few gabby folks.... ;-P ) So, as a start to a new year, I
thought it would be fun to tell a bit about ourselves, and get to know each
other. I'm sure the newbies aren't the only one trying to keep the players
straight without a score card!

Ok, here goes! I'm Wendy, posting as "frood". I live in Central NC, USA. I'm
married to a fabulous man, and we have 5 kids, ranging from 13 to 4 yo
twins, known online as Spike and Giles. I've been quilting for about 7 or 8
years, mostly machine piecing and machine quilting. I love bright colors,
and I collect vintage textiles.

I'm Jalynne, posting as....well, Jalynne. I live in Tacoma, Washington, USA. My DH
is in the Navy, and we have one DD, age 7....Aleesha. We homeschool, and quilting is
a wonderful way to teach math and science, as well as art and a whole slew of other
things. I've been quilting for about 6 or 7 years now, and mostly enjoy hand
quilting. The last few years have been difficult for getting much accomplished
because of medical problems, but now I'm back cramming the days full of creative
endeavors. I like blues and muted colors, and am more into traditional type
patterns. I also enjoy setting unusual/different sized blocks together.

I'll piggyback this as I, too, missed the original post.
This is ME-Judy from Brunswick, ME! I'm 63, married for 36 yrs to DH Don,
have 6 kids ranging from 40s on down to 20s. Was a Navy Wife till DH
retired about 20 yrs ago and he then worked out at the base at the FSC.

I'm originally from Portland, Oregon. Taught school in Bend, OR, and then
taught for the Dept of Defense Overseas Dependent Schools in Okinawa, Japan.
Been a lot of places in this world - and home is always best (regardless of
where on the map it may be G).

We have one QI - a beagle rescue named Gus. He's a love, but can be a bit
of a "velcro hound" sometimes.

I've been quilting for ages on and off. Now that all the kids are out on
their own, I took over one bedroom for my sewing room. My DH chides me that
I'm trying to "insulate the house with fabric" against the cold winters. G
I keep thinking that I can complete a project from the stash - hasn't worked
out that way yet!

Have met some of the RCTQ'rs out in the Chicago area when visiting my
SIL.... had a ball! (shop-hopping for fabric/patterns/notions unavailable up
here).

I LOVE "Press'N'Seal"!!! I love Stack-N-Whack quilts. I love finding
shortcut ways to do things. I love country colors (especially blues and
reds - not necessarily in the same project.) I'm not a huge fan of brights
or purples.

That's me!

I'm Mary posting as maryd. I live in western Oregon and married to DH for
nearly 36 years. We have 4 children (all married) and 5 grandchildren. I
tried a little quilting back in the early 70s but changed to clothing
construction. A year ago I started quilting again and love piecing.

I'm Jennifer, I post as JS, and sign my posts as Jennifer in Florida.

I live just north of Orlando with my DH and my two boys (7 & 2). I have
four QIs - two cats and two guinea pigs. The cats enjoy the quilting, the
pigs not so much. My kids love quilts, and are always dragging my finished
pieces around the house. Luckily I do mostly machine work, which is totally
washable and very durable.

I am 31, and I have been sewing since I was quite young. My grandmother had
me doing embroidery and knitting before I was 10. I did cross stitch as an
adult, and started quilting five years ago. I wanted to make my oldest son
a quilt to remember all of our tropical vacations, so I started collecting
batiks to make him a quilt. I discovered that I am a rabid fabriholic, and
I finished his quilt after several months of work. It was his prize
possession for about a year, until I made a homely ragtime quilt for the
cat. John took that, and he has slept with it every night since. The cat
is still holding a grudge.

Piecing is my first love, and finishing is a real challenge. I love to start
projects - my stash talks to me and eggs me on . Batiks are my favorite
fabric, and every time I vow to buy nothing but batiks, Valorie Wells
designs a new quilt, and I must have it. I have two of her kits sitting in
my closet waiting to move onto my bed.

Welcome to everyone. This is a fun and informative group - I have been
reading for five years, and I post occasionally.

G'day Folks!

I'm Sharon, posting as.... well look down and you'll see!

I'm from a little place called Dingley Village in Victoria in Australia. I
have a wonderful (travelling) husband called Wayne and we have 2 kids
(daughters), a mortgage and a cute QI called Merlot. He's a cat (Australian
Multi-Cultural Long Hair) and he lets us live here.

I'm just going back to work (3 days per week). I tend to machine piece,
hand applique, and hand quilt. I've been going for, what is it?, 4 years
now? It's so hard to remember! I love all fabric - well except brown and
"yeuchy" colours and I just love purple and blue!

I'm Melinda, also from Australia but a bit further north than Sharon
Cardiff in New South Wales. I have a DH that is self employed and works
from home and an 18 month old DS.

I haven't done a lot of quilting, I'd say intermediate piecer and a
beginner quilter, started pieceing about '96. I also belly dance, so
I dabble in beading and I'm on the New South Wales state team for
metallic silohette(sp) (I think my brain has taken a short holiday).

My favourite colours are bright, hot pinks, royal purple, black, white,
royal and navy blue, but I'll work with almost any colour. Currently
piecing a scrap top lap sized and an autumn toned bed sized top for DH.

This is Marissa, my screen name is Dr. Quilter. I am originally from
Uruguay but have been living in the states for 10 years now, and have
been quilting almost that long though I've made a lot more quilts in the
last few years. I have a PhD in Molecular Biology from Penn State
University and now live in Seattle, where I work at the University of
Washington. So does my husband. We have a 10 month old daughter, Sofia,
and four guinea pigs but none of them is much of a quilt inspector.

I'm a Minnesota native who has been sewing for nearly 50 years and
quilting off and on for over 30 years. I really got serious about it
about 10 years ago and I haven't looked at another needlework or craft
project since. Most of my quilts are machine pieced and machine quilted.
I enjoy hand-quilting, but trigger finger in my right thumb keeps me
from doing a lot of it. I have also done some applique, both by hand and
machine. I always have at least 2 or 3 projects going. I have been at
handquilting a queen size jewel box quilt for about a year; I'm almost
done -- down to just the border on one side left; I can't work on it for
more than an hour or so at a time because of the trigger finger, so it
takes me a long time to get something done. I also am handquilting a
crib quilt made from blocks my mother embroidered; that is my portable
take-along project, so it doesn't go too fast. Someday, if my daughter
has a child, it will go to that baby. The major project right now is
machine quilting a queen size Trip Around the World; I'm enjoying using
variegated thread to do a lot of free-hand feathers. I should have that
done in a couple of days, so it will be on to something else.

I am a retired software engineer. I have been married 37+ years to a
school counselor, now retired. We have a son and a daughter, both
married. Our son and daughter-in-law have blessed us with a 4 year old
grandson and a 2 year old granddaughter, both really adorable kids whom
we don't see enough of
