mid-arm quilt machine

Do any of you have one of the mid-arm quilt machines? The HQ 16, Voyager 17
or the stretch Singer? Please tell me what you like and don't like about
the machine and frame set up.

I've been appointed to do research for my guild. We have a Pfaff Grand
Quilter and are considering upgrading to a longer throat machine.

I don't have any of the ones you mentioned, but am anticipating the
purchase of a Tin Lizzie 18 in the next few months. BG
DH is even behind the purchase, partly because it means a big chunk of
house has to get sorted and "contents re-positioned". LOL
It is a machine that is made in the US, designed by the father of a
quilter and I have test driven it at a few shows. You have to supply
the EMT pipe for rails but everything else is included.
The machine moves very smoothly on its tracks and is very easy to use.
The only thing I worry about, and just a bit, is that the height of the
throat isn't as big as some machines. But with an 18" throat even a
large quilt can have quite a bit of room at the end.

Cost is about $6000 or so, depends on dealer and specials. Go to the

Thanks for the link!! I'll add it to my research list. We're not in any
big hurry so I have plenty of time to research and compare all the machines
in that size range I can find.

A LQS is in process of opening a service where one can
rent time on a HQ 16. A series of classes are required
to be approved to rent the machine. Maybe a
store/dealer near you has a similar service.

The only thing like that in this area is about 2 hours away and she rents
out regular long arm. There is a dealer for the HQ 16 about 4 hours away at
least.
