Thanks, Jerry Jerry, check back at the old thread, if you've still got it stored on your computer. You got several leads. But more importantly, this isnt' complex to do, but you'll actually have to get off the computer, and use the phone and the mails to do it, most likely. Virtually all the major jewelry tools suppliers can have such stamps custom made for you, so if you simply pick up the phone and actually call Rio Grande, Gesswein, Frei and Borel, or any of the other major suppliers, you'll likely find that they do indeed offer that service as a special order, on request, item. There are several independent companies that do this too. Micro mark is one well known one that specializes especially in very small text marking tools, but can do the standard stamps too. They're the only one I know has a web page with pricing, though I don't have the URL right at hand. Sossner is another company I've dealt with in the past. A google search, or one on the Thomas register web site, should find either those firms, or others with little trouble. If you've not found the companies that can do this, I'm sorta thinking perhaps it's because you've just not taken the time to actually follow up the leads. You do have to go to the trouble to prepare and send artwork for custom stamps, unless you just want standard letters, which can be done just on the phone. Expect to pay between 50 and a hundred dollars for a typical custom stamp, depending on the size, detail, etc. Please pardon my assumptions if your statement that things just didn't pan out was more thoroughly based in something like needing something the several suppliers you were steered to, couldn't provide when you did actually follow up and investigate them... By the way, I'd also note that custom stamps, unless you need them very small, aren't actually that hard to make yourself. Use annealed drill rod, and the same gravers and needle files and other tools you might use to engrave and carve on gold. You need to do a slightly mental switch to draw the image in reverse, and then carve away everything except the thin line image. Once you've done that, and "proofed" the stamp in very soft metal, then just harden the thing and off you go. Most of my own signature stampes were ones I made back in school. Just student projects, but worked well enough i still use em. Peter |

Given that you may be in the USA from your address, buy a copy of
Lapidary Journal. You should find an ad in there fora custom stamp maker. Fred Peter W.. What about other tools that aren't stamps? It's been quite a while since I made my signature stamps, but when I did, it was because I didn't really want to have to try and cough up the cash to have it done. So yes, that's pretty much how I made them. Drill rod for the stamp, 8/0 saw blades, escapement files, tiny ball and bud burs, and mostly, gravers. Annealed steel is actually rather nice to engrave. I'll work on that any day in preference to typically hard and nasty high nickel white golds... Peter |
