Default joining fabric

I know I read somewhere how to join two pieces of fabric together to make
one without it showing too much. I want to do this on a piece of mine to
change a squarish rectangle into a really long rectangle. Does anyone have
a guideline on how to do this fairly quick and painlessly?

Sorry for replying to myself, but I just found it. If anyone else is
looking, New Stitches #143, page 22
