Hullo Kellie
I didn't think of this when I read your initial post; but now I
remember: the little quilt I made for The Ancient Mariner, had a very
complex pieced top (including lots of small triangles), which I
completely ignored and quilted a three masted schooner in full sail onto
it!!! (It is almost completely invisible by the way!!). So, I would
say that a themed quilting pattern would look great. I very often use a
quilting pattern which bears little resemblance to the piecing design.

Ah, yes... I know there are NO quilt police.... and i know the design in my
mind will look good on the back. And i seem to remember talk of others doing
this sort of thing before. AND i have seen it done where the back and front
are both pieced, but the piecing was similar.

I'm just curious and a bit apprehensive regarding the aesthetics of the 1/4
square triangles with the quilting i have in mind. Hoping someone had
tried something like this before and would own up as to whether or not it
worked for them!

could you put monofilament on the bobbin, so the front of the quilt
would be subtly indented and not so obvious...

that mess up the front? should i save that pattern for another quilt?

REpeat after me. There are no Quilt Police. There are no hard and fast
rules about quilts. I can make anything that appeals to me. If I make it
with love, it will be loved too. No one will show up at my door and
impound my sewing machine because I made something "against the rules."

Do as you will, since that is what appeals to you.

Sounds good to me!!
