Default Tapestry meets petite point

How do I work my tapestry where the normal stitches meet the petite
point work? Of course the wool is much thicker than used for the
p.point and the tapestry is sewn in the big squares on the canvas,
p.point sewn in all squares (sorry for not knowing correct
terminology)

I've been too busy to be here much lately, but try to catch up when the
rest of the household is sleeping, so I've missed what it is you're
stitiching. Could you tell me please? It sounds like it's going to be
beautiful! I'm also going to watch for posts that tell you how this is
done as I'm very interested!

I don't do this kind of work, but my sisters do, and so did my aunts and
grandmother, so I'm just going on what I have absorbed subconsciously. The
small intermediary squares are worked with a wool strand split for the purpose.
This is more of a problem with some tapestry yarns than others. An alternative
is to find an embroidery thread that matches the wool to fill in the spaces,
but I wouldn't think you would get a nice clean edge that way, and exact color
matches are hard to get.

I think it is a piano stool cover. An elderly friend gave me some
canvases she had for ages (probably well over 30 years old). I really
have nowhere to put them but a workmate has a housefull of antiques so
said this one would look great in her house. It has pink cooured
flowers and I'm doing a black background. Many of them are flower
garlands, one if even a full set for a chair. I've never done a
tapestry with the petite point done so wasn't sure how to do it.

I have a related question to Carolyn's about petite point on a needlepoint
canvas. I recently saw what I thought was a hand painted canvas where the
facial area was a much finer mesh then the rest of it. I was curious as to
how it was made. The canvas was part of a large amount of stash our guild
inherited and I believe it was quite old. I'm not familiar with needlepoint
canvases so I could be wrong about it being hand painted but it looked very
different from any of the printed ones I've see recently.
