Default Suggestions needed for tinting glass

I need suggestions for tinting glass for two pieces of furniture I am
building,
an entertainment center and a book case.

I'd like a smokey/dark tint, just to 'hide' the cabinet contents.

I'm a woodworker with no experience working with glass.

I've found what appears to be a good source 1/4" tempered glass in
standard sizes, for about a third the price of custom work which allowed
tinting
as an option.

Is tinted film my only choice?

ThankX,
Ron

No you can buy grey tinted window glass like is used in buildings and have
it cut to size and tempered.
In this usage, you may not have to have it tempered depending on the sizes
of the panes.

Any local flat glass shop should be able to order glass with a tint.
Some colors may be...smoke, bronze, blue.....Most likely it won't need
to be tempered being it's going in a piece of furniture.
