Howdy!

I don't use a quilting frame. ;-)

When you look at history of machine quilting it goes back
longer than you might think.

I am kind of partial to the frame that hangs from the
ceiling myself. Maybe there is something to go from with
that idea.

Is that our Ragmop in the Queen quilting frame ad? LOL

Hi Sherry,

Asking a dumb question, is that what you use when handquilting?
What a wonderful idea. If I had the spare space in my sewing room, I would
have one.

Wellll...okay but you have to promise not to laugh. I know how
dreadfully archaeic it is, but it works!!

that is brilliant.
i'd heard of but never seen one of these in action, so to speak.
its all so simple, as quilting oughta be.
what beautiful stars, a lovely layout and great colour that yellow.
the cables quilted along the border are fantastic.
best of all, i love your 'supervisor' in the corner.
hes got an excellent view of your work from his high spot.
i'd love to be able to go to the timberyard and ask them to make me a quilt
frame.
can you imagine the looks you'd get and the conversation today if ya did
that.
must go find the link i had for one of those old fashioned frames.
thanks so much for putting those pix up for us all to drool over.
cheers,
jeanne

Sherry, thanks for posting those pics! The quilt is lovely, BTW. I've
heard of these frames, of course, and even seen sketches; but I'd never
seen photos of one before. That's a pretty cool way to store it! It
wouldn't work in our climate, since so many ceiling fans would make a
problem G.

That is great. If you google images you can find a few of those
but most are in historical houses not in current use. Ceiling
fans are pretty much everywhere here too. Rats!
Thanks for sharing Sherry. Should I be concerned that it doesn't
seem archaic to me?

Oh, thank you. And thanks to Jeanne for drooling and not laughing. :-)
But its use came about from practical reasons, not historic. I had
heart surgery and
couldn't work anymore. I didn't know what to do with myself not
working. I thought I'd
like to learn to quilt, but I could not afford to buy a frame, OR a
sewing machine for a hobby
I wasn't sure I'd like. So I drug out my mother's Singer 15-91 (that I
didn't even know how to thread),
and that quilting frame had been in the rafters of our shed for YEARS,
it was my MIL's. She is in her
late 80's now, but thankfully she was still able to come over and show
me how to use it.
That was 2 years ago. I've gotten the hang of it and I DO enjoy it, so
much, even though I'll
never turn out anything quilt-show-worthy or anything.
Now I'm looking at new machines, and have looked at some of those
Grace frames. They look really
nice. I could sit in the living room if I had one of those. Or I could
have 2 quilts in progress at once! :-)

my goodness, Sherry.
why on earth you or anyone would think i'd laugh at that great quilting
frame beats heck outta me.
i love a good laugh and often find some things funny that no one else does
but hey, dont we all?
we all find amusement at things no one else does because of something that
has happened in our past.
nothing at all to do with current state of the world.
its one reason i havent been to a movie theatre in yrs.
i'm the crazy one who is cracking up when the rest of the audience is
silent.
ya just cant take me anywhere. )
cheers,
jeanne
