Our guild has one going now (haven't seen any quilts yet!) that is
titled...

"my "suhn-dey" best" quilt.

use "suhn - dey" however you wish... SUN day (as in sunny day, SUNDAY
(day of the week), SON day (celebrating baby boys), SUNdae (yum yum).

We were given a fat quater of fabric we had to use at least a 9" x 9"
square's worth (81 square inches) on the front of the quilt. It will be
fun to see what people come up with!

I've got a few in my files....

Favorite book - I've seen this done where the person does anything to
represent their favorite book and others where the person replicates the
actual book cover artwork.

Fun saying - make a quilt to represent all those expressions: a rolling
stone gathers no moss, a stitch in time saves nine and so on. The one I
read about they drew the sayings out of a hat.

Block to match your name - I read about this one where people made a
block whose name started with the first letter of their first name. So,
Estelle could make "Eight pointed star" or "Egg basket" or an "Elephant
block". You get the idea.

As it happens Elly. I give out a FQ in the month of their birthdays, so I
know their dislikes in colours! Thankyou!

I was going to suggest an Ugly Fabric challenge or with positive
thinking 'Make me beautiful' where you are given a fabric in a colour
you hate and have to use it to make something that you like in the
end.... You need to be a bit of both sadistic.. (to hand a piece of
fabric to someone you know will hate it) and masochistic (being
willing to undertake such a challenge. Elly

Yes, that was a good challenge. I did: 'Where the blue of the night

Here in my guild, the challenges with the most
participation were traditional in nature (block or
color assignments) rather than thematic. Examples of
very popular ones:
*Log Cabin, any style
*Basket Block, to include some yellow fabric and some
green fabric any where on the quilt
*M&M candy colors ... must include at least one piece
of each of the 6 basic colors! (For this one, we
received a small packet of the colors AND a packet of
m&ms candy! We paid a fee.)
A popular one was "my initial quilt" which required at
least one block that started with the quilt maker's own
first initial. (My Initial is P, so I made Pinwheel
Blocks.)

"A few years ago, we had a challenge here on RCTQ that involved food"

did it also have to do with making a quilt? Of just collecting, ingesting
or some other "food" situation!

I know who might win the "I've got more chocolate than you award!" lOL

Default Challenge.

The wall hanging had to picture food, use some kind of food fabric or both.
The other requirement was that at least one of the fabrics had to have been
obtained through an RCTQ swap.

There are three unusual challenges from our on-line mystery quilter`s guild
on my site: click on Mystery quilters, then select `Challenges.`
My favourite -- and I`ve done it three times with three different groups--
is the Potluck challenge
http://members.shaw.ca/kigraham/myst...s/potluck.html
It`s a fun challenge at several stages, from picking the ``food`` fabric to
the china to the finished quilt. In my books, the big bonus is that it`s
very beginner-friendly, and not so daunting for new quilters as some of the
more common challenges.
