Gordian Knot
Of course it was Bev, who else? But she left her tiara home today --
didn't want to get it wet :-) She said that Mary's husband was allowing the book to be published but was charging a rather high price for it. I'm betting you took the class from Queen Bev Stookey. She is so funny. Mary Whitehead was a guild member who died shortly after I joined Peninsula Quilters. There are quite a few of her patterns floating around though her husband doesn't want them published. He say her friends can teach them though. I didn't realize that there was an actual book out there that she had published. You did a very nice job on your quilt! marcella In article , "maryd" mardor@*net wrote: That is gorgeous, Anne. -- Mary http://community.webshots.com/user/mardor1948 "Anne in CA" wrote in message ... A while ago someone mentioned seeing a Gordian Knot quilt or book. I took a class today at my LQS and the class was based on Mary Whitehead's book. My top, so far, is available for viewing at http://community.webshots.com/photo/...30878969cfdslO I plan to make a pieced border of the background (light green) edged with the outline color(dark purple). Already it is whispering to me that it wants to be hand quilted. A word of warning -- using the book is *possibly* easier than drafting your own pattern, but taking a class based on the book is probably the best way. Ms Whitehead used the odd convention of giving all measurements as *finished* size instead of *un*finished size. That can really throw you off if you don't pay close attention. On the other hand, with careful cutting, good organization (zip baggies are your friend!), and guidance from a teacher who has made several of these, it goes together quite well. My top is 32" x 40", the "knots" are 2" wide finished and the outlines are 1" wide finished. Class started at 10 am and most of us were finished this far by 3 pm. That includes 45 minutes for the best Mexican food on the peninsula. -- Anne in CA annerudolph AT comcast DOT net Disclaimer: Any errors in spelling, tact, or fact are transmission errors. http://community.webshots.com/user/annerudolph3 http://www.frappr.com/rctq |

I'm glad your class went so well -- it's always a plus when you can get far enough along before going home that you see progress and can visualize the finished product. -- Sandy in Henderson, near Las Vegas my ISP is earthlink.net -- put sfoster1(at) in front http://home.earthlink.net/~sfoster1 AKA Dame Sandy, Minister of Education |

Gordian Knot
I was the one who mentioned looking for the pattern. I ordered it online
from a store in CA. I decided to try a smaller version and am actually putting it together this weekend. I think it would have been much easier and more fun if I had been able to go to a class, but alas, TX is a little far. Actually they taught it at a LQS (about 30 miles away) but during the week when I was working and very rude about not telling me where to locate the book. I think your version is beautiful. When I finish my top I will post a picture. For me this is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle to fit the pieces. thanks for the inspiration! Kathleen in TX |

It is just like a jigsaw puzzle, isn't it? :-) The key for me was to cut
everything ahead of time and put the pieces in *labeled* zip bags. Isn't it a fun pattern though? Please post pix of yours when its done, OK?
