Default What did Santa bring?

DH confessed today that he was very worried when he was looking for
wrapping paper for the pack of 12 Thimbleberries he gave me. Said he
looked in one box and I seemed to have quite a lot of fabric already,
so wondered if I would have prefered something else! (I had told him
that wrapping paper lived in the special cylindrical wrapping paper
bag I bought just before Christmas which lived in the hall cupboard,
but like most men he was not sure where the hall cupboard was).

I have explained that a decent stash consists of a complete Quilt
shop.Compared to the photos of sewing rooms that appear, my stash is
pathetically small but it is obviously enough to frighten him!

They are quite rich dark colours, so I think something traditional
like stars will be what will appear. Must finish the top from a class
at LQS which used Thimbleberries to see what I can add to them.

My present arrived wrapped in two Christmas paper napkins. The basting
gun was tied with ribbon - the ribbon which hangs as the tail of my
old bookmark mouse - with mouse attached.

'manly' FQ's (hammers, motorcycles, paintbrushes) since he's a new
quilter. I'm still in the recovery stage after housing and feeding
twelve for six days. The dishwasher NEVER stopped!! and the refrigerator
is EMPTY!! My raspberry trifle was a big hit. For breakfast, I tried the
eggs in a plastic bag in boilng water trick and it worked. GKDS were
very impressed. They left me a little ice cream in the freezer. It's Ben

chocolate chip crunchies and a soft caramel center. YUM-O! Hugs to all
who need them, rain to those in fire threatened areas, and prayers, good
health and luck for all in the new year. Nancycog in MD

Yep, Heidi. The teens had to sleep on the floor near the Christmas tree.
We have foam matresses for them. They loved it. Nancycog in MD

Default OT pellet stoves, was What did Santa bring?

Maybe that is it. We aren't too far from the big oil fields in Oklahoma and
Texas and natural gas is a by product of the crude oil. But I remember when
I lived on the farm in Lewis County in Washington State _ I only lived a few
miles from a huge Dam and the electricity bill only came every other month
but was no different than the amount I spent in Northern California.

my house is around that size, one level, and VERY well insulated, new
double pane windows, tons of the fluffy pink stuff in the attic, etc. I
think there is no way I could heat it with 59 bucks of gas. Maybe it is
Arkansas vs. the West coast?

I have central heat and air. The heat and water heater is all natural
gas. My house is about 1600 square feet and a 2 1/2 car garage that has a
vent to it. It is well insulated with energy efficient doors and
windows. Maybe that's what makes the difference.

Hancocks has a drapery lining fabric that is a good insulator for windows.
They call it a black out fabric. My friend lives in an older home with
single pane windows and she makes them like panels with metal
eyelet/grommets that slip over her curtain hooks. Her drapes extend a few
inches past the windows on all 3 sides and go to the floor. She swears by
it as an insulating fabric for winter and summer.

Then you would just die on the spot if you saw one of my January
bills.
Even in August the bill seldom gets below $50.
We have a smaller house than you, forced air, gas hot water and
cooking, and we shiver the winter away. But Richard the Deep
breather, as we call the furnace, is old. It in fact looks much like
something smuggled out of a small crematorium. I have been trying for
years to get the landlord to replace it with something more efficient.
Best I have done is duct tape and new filters.

I am seriously considering making quilted curtains just to save that
little bit of heat.

Just got my natural gas bill yesterday. For 30 days it was $227. We
were
told the prices would sky rocket this winter, but hey, it wasn't even
winter when we used that gas!

LOL Sandy, Mine wasn't wrapped either. It was encased in that horrid
plastic packaging. I only cut myself in 4 different spots getting it out.
I really hate that! Ouch!!!

I got several quilty presents...

Santa brought me Gabrielle Swain's applique DVD

My husband gave me a laser level. He told me yesterday that the Ricky
Tims machine quilting DVD is on the way.

My son gave me the quilters pocket knife.

One of my sisters gave me the book, "The Quilt that Walked to Golden" by
Sandra Dallas.

I am a very spoiled quilter!

Now, if I just had more time to quilt.

I got 4 new quilt books this year (Strips and Strings, Nickel Quilts,
5500 Quilt Block Designs and another about embroidery); some small
stocking stuffers I had picked myself (thimble stickies, basting spray,
applique glue, a little fabric) and some I hadn't (a lingerie bag for
washing fat quarters in, a magnetic pin picker-upper). But my biggest
quilty gift was a certificate for a homemade "quilt design wall of my
choosing" by DH. He made it a few days after Christmas, and there is a
photo of it in my webshots album (last photo in sewing album). I love
it, and it has motivated me to reorganize my sewing area, which badly
needed to be done.

How wonderful, Lynn! Your design wall looks great.

I've been thinking that I didn't get any quilty gifts this year, but
I've changed my mind. G DH did get me the iPod I wanted, and I've
decided that it's truly a quilty gift, since I've been listening to
audiobooks on it -- what a treat! I'm very new to the world of
audiobooks, but I'm really enjoying it. And, of course, I went to run
some errands yesterday -- the first time since Christmas that I'd felt
well enough to go anywhere (or even get dressed G). One of my errands
took me to HomeDepot, where I succumbed to temptation and bought myself
a laser level square -- really cool!
