I think I'm bashing my head against a brick wall with this one. It
really doesn't matter what people said to you off the group - that's
quite irrelevant to my point. You made an error and trod on peoples

and we are not. The charter forbids advertising IN ANY FORM, and
offering thing for sale (that is, in exchange for money) is
advertising.

Kate what charter? Like I said earlier I have may not have the same
information on ng's as others. It would be nice that I am not totally
losing my mind. ???? thanks

It doesn't seem to be expressly forbidden in the charter (buried in
he http://www.faqs.org/faqs/crafts/textiles/faq/part1/) but that is
certainly implied by a lack of mention of advertisements in the list
of what it's for. It might be argued by some, though, that offering
quilty stuff for sale (or offering to buy) is in fact discussion of
quilts or quilty matters and so is allowable.

The rationale offered for the chartering of
rec.crafts.textiles.marketplace, however, implies more strongly that
non-.marketplace groups in r.c.t are not for advertisements.
(http://users.rcn.com/kdyer.dnai/arch_vote2.html) Even if it didn't,
I'd say the mere existence of r.c.t.m strongly implies that
buy/sell/trade posts should not be made in the other groups in the
hierarchy.

The above links were found in this Google search:
('charter rec.crafts.textiles.quilting')

http://www.google.com/search?q=chart...lting&so urce
id=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

This information was not difficult to find, but not entirely intuitive
for newcomers those who may not know they exist. Therefore I think
some degree of forgiveness, and a little gentle guidance to r.c.t.m,
is justified for first-time rule breakers.

The Earthlink news server I get this group from has messages going
back at least as far as 6/15/03, and the only posts about the FAQ I
see are from today. Perhaps a link to the FAQ page should be posted
regularly, maybe biweekly or so?

JA - who finally read the other FAQ postings after composing most of
this and knows it's a little redundant, but, dang it, is gonna' post
this anyway!
