Same here, hon. If, once you are addicted, you remain an alcoholic, then I
am still an alcoholic (as I claim if I go to an AA meeting). But not a
practicing one. When I was drinking, what I got perfect was to be perfectly
awful, especially to myself.

I'm the opposite, practicing alkie who couldnt get it right so I gave it

up
as a bad job. That was some years ago.. let me think... 24?
Im sober today. Thats the important number for me. Its more fun being

nutso
when sober. I wasnt nuts when drunk, just stupid.
There are so many things in my life that I cannot imagine having now if I
had chosen to keep drinking. DH, DD, DGS,... et al. Beads, quilting...Ok..
lets sum it up as "a Life"...
Congrats to you on your 14 years!

Yeah, I used to be a practicing alcoholic. But I got it perfect and

don't
have to practice any more. I can be just as crazy stone cold sober.

(14
years now).

Stupidity is a lot more fun sober. Thats what I found with age. At

least
this way I can remember who to apologize to! :-)

Many things are poisonous for us, but only when we reach a

saturation
point.
My inventor friend, Walter is like that with gas, especially diesel

fuel.
Driving behind a truck for an hour would make him very ill for a

couple
days. Needless to say, he can't live in any city.

I think alcohol is like that too. One reason I think that, is that

if
an
alcoholic stops drinking, even for a couple decades, and then begins

to
drink a little again, the addiction returns almost immediately.

But with age our bodies handle toxins (and other damage) less

readily.
And
also with age, I think we are less willing to put up with the side

effects
of intoxication -- you know, like stupidity (sometimes).

I know for sure that I used to be able to drink a lot more and not

feel
sick, LOL! I didn't even get hung over unless I really overdid it.

Now
I
get a hangover after two beers... it's sad.

Ya know, I don't really know! I do know tho, that I used to be

able
to
handle
quite a bit of liquor, and yes, I'd get drunk and be stupid, but

I
didn't get
sick. Now, a few sips of alcohol and my stomach is queasy, my

face
is
flushed,
and I feel ICK!!

Maybe it's maturity telling me that those things used to happen

to
me
then,
too, but I was too stupid to stop at a few sips! HAW!
