cashmere yarn

I wonder if anyone knows what the going rate is for cashmere yarn. I
have seen 120 yds in local shops for $23.00 (US). What would a really
good deal be for a baby hat, something rather fine, maybe 20 sts. to a
4"/10cm?

http://www.lookchina.com is one of the larger importers of cashmere
yarn. If its something you're going to use frequently, or use in
large quantities you should consider acquiring a business license and
purchasing directly from them. I've bought spinning fiber as well as
coned yarn through LookChina; the quality is great and the service
excellent.

Commercial put-ups of cashmere yarn are IMO overpriced.

BTW, don't waste cashmere on a baby. Find a good wool superwash, say
Dale Baby Ull, and use it instead. The baby won't know the difference
and the mother will be thrilled that she can chuck it in the washer
and dryer.

Cashmere retails for between $15.00 and $25.00 for 25 grams. The length depends
upon the gauge. I would have thought 20 sts to 4" a bit thick for a baby hat.
