If you will contact any good paint store or department, they should be
able to show you paint removers that have virtually no effect on metal or
glass. They will have to look at the paint to see if it is latex or enamel.
The most that might happen is that after the paint is off, the "patina" that
developed where metal was exposed will be darker than the area under the
paint. If this is true, the effect can be evened out with appropriate
patina solutions.

I own a house with a small deck off the master brdm. There is an
outdoor electric lantern on the deck attached to the house. The
lantern itself is (was!!!) a very nice ornate lamp sitting on an arm
coming out of the house, much like a carriage lantern. However, it is
now completely trashed. It is rusted and splattered with paint from
the house. It's globe is a 5.5 by 7.5 square stained glass piece that
upon inspection of the soldering, looks handmade. Some numbskull
several years ago was too lazy to cover the lantern when painting the
house and the globe is spattered with paint everywhere. I removed and
disassembled the lantern and found that the globe was a completely
separate part of the lantern. I am very interested in saving the
globe, as it is very attractive (minus the paint splatters). My
questions a how can I get rid of the paint splatters? Is there
some solution I could bathe the globe in without ruining the glass
itself or compromising the soldering? Moreover, is there a way I
could buy a new lantern body and put the globe in it? Upon doing some
research, I don't see any type of lantern available to purchase that
would accept a "custom globe"
